   Respected. If people respect you they  would do what you want because they look up to you.
   
   If they feared me, they would do what I tell them to do but bitch about the whole time to others.

   Respected, definitely as people would hopefully regard me as a person who leads by example, rather than some vile ogre who puts the fear of God into people.

   I would definitely rather be respected and not feared. If you are respected, you will  have a somewhat easier path than by having people fear you. Fear drives people to desperate acts that can harm you.

   Like many things this one depends on the circumstances, but if you're working within a social institution (government, church, corporation, even an informal group) it takes both to accomplish much. People have to respect your ability to take them to a good place, and they have to fear you in order for your directions to be accepted. Sorry if it disillusions someone, but that's how humans are built.

   Respect everytime.  Parents, leaders, elders who rule by fear are the cause of so much pain externally and internally.

   Respected...this was a no-brainer...if I am respected, my opinions, reasons for doing things, advice, and requests are more likely to succeed. 
   
   Being feared  only means that things I want are being done but everyone is complaining behind my back.

   Culture based on fear is unhealthy, stagnant and produces little of worth, and it usually  dies an unpleasant death. Culture based on respect is mutually supportive, creates great things and brings out everyones strengths
   
   I chose respect- but what I really want is mutual respect.

   This may seem a bit over-analyzed but I'd prefer to be able gain the respect of those who are worthy of my respect. ...But I always want there to be that doubt  among those with less than honorable intentions ..     To come up with a credible answer let us first define the two: Fear and Respect.

    Fear is a distressing negative sensation induced by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger.
    
    Respect is a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected. It is a positive feeling or esteem given to person or an entity. Respect is not voluntarily given but is earned.
    
    My personal opinion on the matter is I would rather be respected than feared.

    I would rather be respected, where it is understood that I would only ask people to do what I think is best for all involved, they would trust you. People are more comfortable around people they respect, they usually run from thoses they fear.
