Do you think it is selfish to bring children into this world?

No Not at all. I think that it is very selfish not to. But that is because I was an only child and very lonely. I think that every child is Special Wonderful and Unique. To say that the world is no place for children is far fetched, I would say a World with no children is no Place I would ever want to live.

There will always be children in this world. But is is selfish to bring 3 or 4 or more into this already over-populated world? Each person has a carbon count that affects climate change and in effect changes our ability to sustain life on Earth.

This world is amazing if you have the resources and time to raise a child. Most people neglect their children if for monetary or lifestyle (single mom working two jobs). There are plenty of children that are brought into this world poor and hungry.

and your point is? there are also many poor people who raise their kids awesomely. it doesn't take money to give your child a good life, it takes love and caring.

I'm glad your world is amazing and full of laughter smile I wish every home had that priviledge. Not always the case (esp. in slums of India or rural Africa). I wish love was abundant too!

Harmony, I am with you. Before ONE has children, it is smart to ascertain the affordability & feasibility of having children. It is totally foolish &unwise to have children when one cannot afford to do so psychologically, emotionally, & f

I kind of do. Because what if I want children but someone else doesn't want theirs? Should I have their children instead? If I add another life, will it be a good life? If they have a bad life, should I not of had them at all? Etc.

There are plenty of "unwanted" children to go around in foster and adoption clinics. Are we selfish to bring another human into this world when there are plenty that need a home and love?

Yes. Because you want your own children, not someone elses. I am sure there is a child who needs a parent out there who would be the perfect child with the right adults to motivate and take care of them. My best friend as a child was adopted.

There are plenty of children that need love in this world! Are we selfish to bring in a child that has our genes and "looks like us", and to pass on our name?
We should have the ability to love a child even if it's not biologically ours.

I don't know how people can even hate any child, theirs or not.. Bringing child into this world is and can be considered selfish only and only because we want to be happy and kids are best way to keep us happy, be it our or others.

To make a decision on whether or not to "bring children into this world," based on suppositions, possibilities, negative attitude toward the world, financial status, assumptions, hereditary concerns, "flawed" infants, time constraints, lifestyle.......would drive any couple to adjoining rooms in a psyche facility, with conjugal visits strictly prohibited.......Thus, no chance of bringing kids into the world.
If my 4 incredibly happy, successful, productive sons are examples of my selfishness.........they're the best SINS I ever committed.  My Grandchildren?  You do not even want me to go THERE!!   lol

I don't think it is selfish if the parents are ready and able to lovingly bring up another human being for the next 18+ years.  (We all know it is much longer than that-- my mom still worries about me and calls me her baby)

It is very sad to think of the many unhappy children around the world.  I have two friends who have waited 5+ years as they go through the adoption jungle.

Imagine a world where every baby was planned and wanted.

I am not sure what I think about the parents who have 10-15-20 children.  It seems excessive for the planet, hard on the mom (and think of the laundry..)  but a happy huge family of wanted, cared for children is by far better than a single mom with nothing who has to give away a baby.

No I don't but I think what it can be is selfish to bring children into a certain type of world. Some people (women to be specific) get pregnant on purpose when they know their relationship in up against the wall and think "you know what'd solve all our problems- a baby". And because men are decent creatures at heart, they stick around to the best of their abilities but if there's a crack in a wall, you can cover it over all you like- the wall will still be cracked & eventually the relationships fall apart anyway leaving the couple worse off than they were before for now there's a little child stuck in the middle of their mess.
Children should not be born as some sort of distraction or band aid; they should be born because two people decide they want to have a family together. If you bring a child into those circumstances, I salute you. If you bring a child into the world to fix your problems, I absolutely scorn you.

It is ONLY SELFISH  when one have children that they can ill afford to care for psychologically, emotionally, mentally, and most of all, socioeconomically.  The WORST thing for chilldren is to be brought up in economic penury and want.  Children should have a good quality of life overall with monies for things beyond the rudiments and for the better things of life.  If one have the socioeconomic means to provide children with a life beyond the basics, by all means they should have children.
