Do you think, Facebook is appropriate for young children?
Many young children are on Facebook. Is it appropriate? What should be the stand of parents regarding the issue?
I think with proper monitoring, there is no harm in it. My granddaughter, who is 11, has her own page. I created for her, with her mom's permission of course. Her mom and I both have her password and username and she is monitored often. Mom has to okay her friends too. And, since she doesn't have her own computer and uses mom's to access FB, then if she breaks a rule, mom can just keep the computer away!
It is ok if the children's facebook accounts are under control of parents.
The younger kids get adapted to computers the better off they will be later in life. FB is now raising a new generation of kid...imagine when you were 7 years old and you had the friends Billy, Jane, and Robert. Does anyone 20 years later remember, talk to, or even know where the old friends live? Now with FB you can keep track of, in contact with, and follow whats going on with EVERY SINGLE FRIEND|PERSON YOU EVER MEET. EVER.
Thats every single real life and online friend you ever have ever. How many friends would we have now and how many business acquaintances would you have now if you stayed Billy, Jane, or Roberts friend from kids?
Let them on Facebook, they will learn, grow, and learn to deal with life just as easily as if they were left out in the woods with nothing.

I think it depends on how mature the child is. I have seen many "like this" and "like for a free..." on my Facebook wall. I think the child should be able to understand that they AREN'T going to get anything free. I think children under 10 shouldn't have a Facebook account simply because of their maturity and how much they know about online stuff. When they are young, and if they want a Facebook account, you could set one of up them. I would make sure that they can only add family and maybe a few friends if they have Facebook accounts. I would make sure that all their photos and status's were private and can only be seen by their friends on Facebook. Other than that, I think any child above the age of 10 (in this day and age) should be allowed to have a Facebook account with parental supervision.

Can you in real life actually put all of your friends in the same room at the same time? Can you give them all the same information?

I have used Facebook on several occasions, and I can see why it's so popular. It can help bring all your old friends back in contact from when you were in school or from your old job. However more and more people are using it to talk to the people in there current lives, is it becoming the main way...
