Why you think the majority of Hubbers are not using the video feature?
I do not see many videos on Hubs. The ones I do see are not really good quality. Some of them skip, and the sound is distorted. I find them to be distracting to the written word.
I think videos are only necessary to get one's point across. If the video doesn't reinforce the Hubber's Hub then why add it?
I agree with you Mary. I too am not an advocate for videos. HubPages is a writing site and certainly not YouTube. I would much rather read an article and quite frankly, have never clicked on a video within a Hub. My feeling is if I want to watch a video I'll turn on TV.
It's harder to find properly-licensed videos, for one thing. I don't know that most of the videos used on HubPages really should be used; I don't think the standard YouTube license allows for sharing on places like HubPages (I'd happily be proven wrong, of course).
But video is distracting as well. If I'm browsing on the Internet, I'm not in the mood to watch a video. If I want to watch a video, I'll go to YouTube and find videos there. If I'm in the mood to read, though, I'm on HubPages or CNN or anywhere else... and when I'm in that mood I don't want to watch a video. It breaks my train of thought and forces me to do nothing but pay attention to the video.
Videos take more work to create then written words. You need a camera, an idea, you have to set up conditions, and then finally in the end you need to take the time to edit it and upload it. Thats why most people don't use videos.
Videos are to enhance points, not be distracting. Many good reasons for videos exists from anything showing you "how to" and for anything that can't be written. What if I was explaining to you how to make a basic body in 3Ds Max, I will of course write a bit about it and write down key steps but no way can I write out perfectly how to make that body in a way the end user will understand it. Seeing it themselves they can often figure it out once its shown to them. Same goes for cooking, sewing techniques, graphic design work, how to set up programs on a computer/use them, and many other reasons. Some are used in reviews of products or shows aswell. So there are many reasons to use the video feature and to include videos in a hub.

Why are there random videos heading Network site articles? Is there an option to remove that feature? I find them distracting and sometimes misleading to the content of the article.

Here's an idea or two... We all know that Hubpages have automatic flaggers that points out substandard hubs, "overly promotional", and so on. What if there's a feature where a hubber can request review, either "peer review" or "hubmaster" review (i.e. review by...
