What is the point of reincarnation?

If reincarnation is real, why does it occur? What are we meant to learn from living more than one life? Do we stay with the same family members or do we get a whole new set of family members? And why is it that some people seem to be able to remember living another life while others don't?

Reincarnation is a false view of death.  The Bible says all will die, and "after this, the judgement."  Once you die, you stand before Christ and you will go to one of two places...Heaven for those who have accepted Jesus as their Saviour, and Hell for those who have rejected Christ. Please read my hub on this important subject!

@Emily Sparks, an old vwpt, but not the only interpretation. A reincarnated being can have body die and stand in judgment for that life and be reborn again... like the man born blind of whom the disciples spoke, or why Esau not "loved" by God.

There will be different viewpoints for this sometimes unknown and controversial subject. The Soul involutes, comes down and starts its journey. It then evolutes from the mineral life, plant life, vegetable kingdom, animal kingdom and finally human, before merging into the divine or returning home, if you like.

Re-incarnation is the process by which the Soul evolves for its experiences. Since it is motivated by desire, all cannot be fulfilled in one lifetime and this neccesitates re-incarnation, generally higher and higher until the Soul can fully manifest its true divinity. It is important to point out here that we are Souls and as such immortal. So the Soul returning with its former experiences, is enriched. Death is rather like going from our living room (life) to  our bedroom (death) we are only sleeping and will awake (birth) sooner or later, and carry on (life). This is the view point of the saints of Yoga Philosophy. Just another view.

Reincarnation from what I have been taught is very tricky.  First I have to start wth we are "spiritual beings having a physical experience".  Now the spirit is eternal, but it odes have a home, called Godhead, heaven, Nirvana etc.  The goal is for the spirit to make it back home.

The spirit comes in contact with materila nature because it wants to enjoy, that is the nature of the spirit.  The problem is that in the material world the spirit get a false ego. The spirit thinks that it is the physical body and it wants to master material nature.  This is where the trouble starts.

There are so many egos and other spiritual beings that we run into one another. We do good to some and bad to others, based on the full situation.  Karma and reincarnation go hand in hand.  For every action there is a set of events that will follow, that is karma. At the end of one physical life you will end up with good karma or bad karma and this will determine the scene for the next incarnation.

The spiritual being will keep getting reincarnated until there is no more Karma to burn.

Some people seem to remember living another life due to strong attachment to the material world.  We may or may not stay with the same famiy members that is determined by Karma.

For those who believe in God, Karma can be burned up if you fully engage you mind and actions with the intention of pleasing God.  In the Vedic system this is called Krishna Consciousness.

    Best wishes.

    Reincarnation is opportunity.

As spiritual children of God, we were born in His image and likeness. We got distracted and fell into a dependency upon physical instrumentality (senses through physical means, only). God had to create Homo sapiens so that the otherwise dead asleep (catatonic) children would have some method for gaining continuity of consciousness.

Outside of physical bodies, we have only dreams, some of them nightmares. No ability to plan and execute a plan for escape from physical dependency. Lost souls!

Reincarnation isn't tied to a specific family, but this doesn't prevent one from being born again into the same lineage.

Some people remember because they are ready to remember -- because they have let go of the barriers to remembrance.

    -----------------------------------------------

When a very bad man lives a life of murder, theft and lies, they care not for the feelings of others. They are living only for the self -- ego.

How can such a person ever be saved from physical reality? The only thing most people take with them in death are the wages of their lives -- the "fruits" of their labors -- karma -- what Jesus described as dying by the sword by which one had lived. Numbers 14:18 described it as the sins of the fathers visited upon the children of the 3rd or 4th generation. Reincarnation. When that evil person dies, they are born again and grow up to an age where they can appreciate the boomerang which they themselves had thrown, 3-4 generations earlier. If they can be made to ask, "Why, God, is this happening to me?" the door is suddenly open to their heart. Humility can finally be theirs. The once arrogant murderer has finally softened their heart for learning.

Reincarnation is multiple opportunities for learning and for re-awakening as a spiritual child of God. And that's what all of this is about.

"Reincarnation is multiple opportunities for learning and for re-awakening as a spiritual child of God."  I do agree with this statement and find it an easy way to understand the point of reincarnation.

What is the point of reincarnation? IF it is true that reincarnation exists then the point is "eternal life".
