   Just start writing. Don't worry about style or formatting because that's all going to change down the road anyway. Nothing is perfect on the first draft. Just put anything in. It's easier to cut later than to add later. Let your characters take you somewhere. Let them tell the story. Let them surprise you. Because if you are surprised while writing your readers will be surprised while reading.

      I agree with the above comment! Just keep writing and don't stop. Sometimes you might find that it makes no sense and it sounds stupid (to you), but don't give up! Writing is a process. A tough one, but if you love it you'll push through.

   I have no professional basis for this answer, but I always thought if I wrote a novel, that I would write it backwards. I would be afraid to write it normally because I would probably have a lousy ending like Stephen King.

   Don't be afraid to write crap, and don't be afraid to skip around. The first draft is all about chasing your interest. If there is a scene in the book that you're looking forward to writing, but it is taking too long to get there, just jump ahead. The last thing you want to do is kill momentum, so skip, hop, and misspell your way to the finish line. You can't edit something if it isn't there. And, as Stephen King says in his book 'On Writing', which I highly recommend, make sure you write the first draft with the door closed. Don't let anyone else in on your ideas and drafts. Outside input is just going to make you second guess yourself. Write the story only for yourself first, and only during the revision process should you let others in.

   Don't wait till you have time, make time! Adopt a "nothing is going to stop me" attitude.
