For children? To the full extent. My child would have to be at least 14 before they would be allowed to watch PG movies. There are just things children should not be exposed to. They will have to face adult problems soon enough. Let them be young and innocent for as long as possible.
Glad you're an active parent, JThomp! I think over exposure to what's not right on film these days causes many of society's problems. Right on the button there!
Well, with a rating system censorship really shouldn't be necessary. However, we have de facto censorship in a sense, since most theaters won't show NC-17 or unrated movies. So directors will often have to tone down their films if they hope to actually make any money in theaters.
All the Way. And this is because nowadays people seem to have no sense of discrimination. Many years ago we were told that TV will not alter peoples' sense of, for instance, right and wrong! Then when criticised they said they are only holding a mirror up to life! But it was usually the lowest in life which attracted the most attention - presented as 'life as it is'! Well it wasn't then - but it is now!
The young tend to follow behaviour patterns presented to them as glamorous, as interesting. Behaving well is not presented to them as either!
Actually, I feel that Libraries too should become more responsible for the material they are making available to people who perhaps lack discrimination. Libraries should shoulder their responsibilties and discriminate! They are qualfied to do so. They should do a better job!
I don't by anyone except the people paying to see the movies. I believe in censoring bad language, sex and violence by not going to see those kind of movies. I believe in parents not letting children see them.

Should books have a content rating system like movies? My wife works for a publishing company and one of the frequent complaints they get is that their books (specifically the one the customer purchased) is too graphic in one way or another. Part of that is a lack of research on the consumers part,...

Does the "Deny" / "Approve" button on comments encourage censorship? While the "deny" button comments may allow us to remove offensive or derogatory comments, it also means that criticism of hubs can be denied. what are your thoughts on this?

One of my articles is waiting to have an editor approve it. I re-worked it according to their recommendations, but I have not yet had anyone approve this and republish it.

When you don't approve of a relative's marriage, is it ok not to attend the wedding?(I've seen the bride to be treating members of the family extremely bad).

I am frustrated shopping for good movies to watch. With the old fashion movies, the old fashion rating system worked. Now with Netflix and other streaming movies our choices are greater and yet our ratings don't tell us much.I don't mind sex and language but when there is violence, I...
