I think once the "best answer" is chosen a question should automatically be closed. Your thoughts?
that is how it is done on yahoo answers...but i think i like this way better. it lets people still weigh in with their 2 cents worth. and honestly, those answers tend to be more honest as the one answering is not hoping for best answer, so they speak truth and not what the questioner want to hear. i like to read answers that come after best answer has already been chosen.
Yeah, right. I have similar thoughts too. However, those that really want to add something new still participate even after a best answer is chosen. On the other hand, few would find it hard not to answer, just for the sake of accolades..... ;P
I don't agree. What if the next answer is an even better answer than the "best" answer? What determines now when answers to a question are closed? It would make sense for the person who asked the question to make that determination. Or it could be automatic if there have been no answers for a long time. A hubber who thinks a question has been fully answered can simply stop following it.
Oftentimes the answer rated "best answer" is one that was given early on or at a particular time. From the readers point of view sometimes it takes awhile to find a question that a person feels moved to make a comment on. I have found great questions that were posted up to a month or two ago.
Generally speaking I believe most writers enjoy posting a question that garners lots of answers and varied perspectives. Unfortunately there are those who take it personally when someone disagrees with their opinion and in a few instances I've seen situations where a few people have been attacked with negative comments because of a difference of opinion on hot topics.
The asker always has the option to "unfollow" their own question if they are sick of getting email alerts. They can also remove the question as well.
The person who posted the question has the option to leave the question open, or close it themselves.
If you want to close your questions after you pick a best answer, you can do so. There's no reason it should be an automated process.
I disagree. Sometimes people like to comment on the other answers, and since the comment form has a lower character limit, people often use the "answer this question form" to write comments. Or like someone else said, sometimes more users have other answers to offer, even if you've already selected the best.
You are certainly free to close your own questions as early as you like, but I don't see why that choice should be imposed on others.

I apologize, but it seems a "Best" answer was chosen on my question when I did not choose it. I hope the HP Team can help me or someone can inform me why that happened! I noticed it via my phone and I knew that I did not choose an answer and I was not going to do so any time...

Do you ever answer a question even after the Best Answer has been chosen?I enjoy providing an answer to questions at times but sometimes there are already many answers, and decide not to. Have you ever given an answer to a question with many answers or even though the Best Answer was already picked?

Do you think being able to choose a best answer will change the Answers section? So it has now been said that soon we will be able to pick a best answer. Do you think this will have any impact on the answers section?
