Wwhat is the occupy movement all about?
I can't figure out what the want or what they really hope to accomplish.
The Occupy Movement, which began a year ago today, had clear and definable goals. They started their protest in the NY Financial District, targeting Wall Street.
In his "The Buck Stops Here" column on CBS Boston's website, Bill Buck had this to say today about Occupy's goals:
"The main purpose of the Occupy Wall Street movement has been to spotlight the financial inequality as well as wealth distribution in the United States between the wealthiest citizens and the remainder of its citizens. Commonly, the wealthy have been referred to as the 1% while the non-wealthy have labeled themselves the 99%."
That's clear enough, and a purpose with which I wholly sympathize. The movement may have gotten a bit out of hand and "straggly" when too many people who were just there for the experience (reminds me of the sixties) showed up, but the basic premise of the movement was sound and relevant to the economic stalemate in which the USA and its citizens--especially the 99% (of which I am one, and unless you're among the 1% ultra wealthy, so are you) are sinking into like quicksand.
Someone must show support of the 99% who don't own most of the wealth in this country, and the Occupy Movement did so to spotlight the problem. Perhaps the publicity this movement generated caused some American citizens to take a closer look at wealth distribution and the uneven privilege that goes with it. In my opinion, that's good, even if nothing else is accomplished. People need to be aware that the U.S. is definitely NOT a classless society as has been portrayed, but classes made up of the 'haves' and the 'have nots', the latter of which are much more profuse.
Some of the 1% actually earned their wealth. Others were born with it and/or stole it from taxpayers through the private Fed Reserve bank. Yes, it's private, not a government agency. Try taking a film crew onto their private property
The Academy Award winning documentary, "Inside Job" explains a lot about what they're protesting.
If you look only at the Corporate Party news, you likely won't get a clear picture of things. You need to visit the Internet, like YouTube. You will find a lot of junk there, but you'll also find a great many thought-provoking gems.
Corporations have increasingly become the great evil -- the epitome of selfishness and greed.
America is losing its way and the derailment of the Constitution is being led by the internationalists -- the Power Elite and their Corporations.
Already it has been made a felony in America to protest (HR 347). Obama has his "Kill List" including American citizens. Bang! You're dead by presidential executive order; no arrest, no trial, no attorney, no warning!
We've had a slow-burning coup for the last several decades. In fact, the rape of America started with the Rockefeller and other Power Elites creating the private Federal Reserve bank and personal income taxes in 1913, along with the Rockefeller Foundation the same year.
This year, both halves of the Corporate Party have done away with the pretense of voting and adherence to Roberts Rules of Order. The pretense is so thin that it can no longer be called a pretense. It's merely a ritual -- a coronation ceremony, where the attending members are no more than dead weight.

Most people don't know that 9/11 was an inside job, but millions have suspected it to be so. Now we have proof. Tons of iron microspheres in the 9/11 concrete dust. Proves controlled demolition. And that proves inside job in those 3 highly-secure buildings protected by Bush-family security company and occupied by CIA (WTC7).

Bankers (CEOs, not tellers or branch managers) are preparing to finish the dismantling of America. When the $16+ Trillion debt bubble pops, America will be toast! And its citizens will be debt slaves hungry for a solution. Their solution will make slavery permanent, and will place the mark of the beast on each of us weak enough to give in.
Don't be fooled like the Germans 80 years ago. Their patriotism led to the deaths of 70 million people and the destruction of their own country.
The Occupy Wallstreet movement is about bringing light to corporate greed and giving a voice to the people.
If corporations are not allowed to make a profit, jobs will disappear. Corporations that make lots of money, pay dividends, their stocks go up - helping eveyrone who owns 401ks, and most importantly, create more jobs up and down the supply chain.
Another thing others didn't mention is that part of the protest was to spotlight how corporations and Wall Street were able to get away with so much and no one had to answer for it. All the bailouts etc and they were pretty much given a free pass at the expense of all of the citizens. Far more protestors have been arrested over this past year than wall street crooks. I find that part rather ironic.
I see what your saying. In a way it's a protest over the status quo for those with the money and the power to control it.
Shouldn't their complaint be with the Democratic congress that passed the bailouts??? And the Democratic president who signed them? The whole housing bubble was created by politicians that leaned on banks to force them to give loans to unqualified pl
There's plenty of blame to go around and the first bailout was in fact handed down by Bush. Blaming only one party doesn't solve problems and truth be told most occupiers know the parties are one in the same - all bought and paid for.
Ostensibly they want progressive financial reform in this country and political change. In reality, some are frustrated because they are broke and they don't want to get a faceless job in corporate America. These sorts of protests happen in the US every 20 or 30 years and nothing ever changes. This one is actually pretty tame. My question is, why do the fat stupid cops like to rush in and beat the hell out of harmless college kids who are doing nothing but speaking out?

There must be some way to get the change-desire movements together on things. What can we do? I need debate, issues, and civil discourse. Let's start!

Do you think that the Occupy Wall Street and other occupy movements were totally constructive or were totally an utter waste of time and energy?
