   When is the average age teenager's are first sexually active?
   
   What age on average do teens first have sex?  Are the engaging in other sexual behaviors prior to the first time and if so what kind of behaviors?  Has anything changed since parents of teens experienced this themselves?  Explain if it is different for boys than girls, homosexual versus heterosexual, any trend in sexually transmitted diseases etc.  I have a 13 year old son and we have excellent communication but I am a female...not sure how much he will share with me and I would like to be fully informed of what is out there today and what age I have to worry about it though I think thsts now.

   Depends on the teenager. In the case of my 18-year-old daughter, I told her to choose between sex and a real nice car. So far it's the car.
   
   Hmmm, you have a 13-year-old son. I told my sons, "Just don't blame it on me."
   
   But in all seriousness, the point that I have always tried to emphasize is that there are consequences for one's actions. Occasionally, opportunities for talking points arise, else it it often difficult to bring up the subject. Two years ago during the high school girl's playoffs, the best girl in the area couldn't play because she got pregnant. She would have had an athletic scholarship to college, but instead became a mother at 17. Minus her, my daughter's team beat her former team 3 times last season and went to the state playoffs. My daughter and I had several discussions about the consequences of this girl's actions.

      I hear you on the consiquences, I was 19 myself and I hope by seeing me struggle as a single mother raising kids (one Autistic) and also finishing college, and financial struggle...all for a better life I could have done sooner that he thinks of that

   I think it depends om many factors. How the child was brought up, Is their virginity sacred to them. Speaking from past experiences, When I was coming up, The average age was probably around 14-15. I know, Looking back, This is very young.

      When I was in school I was about 16 when I first did but it was in a relationship I was in on and off until I was 19.  Someone I love. But realistically, though I tell him he should wait, I know it will probably happen sooner than later:)

      I was younger. I think maybe boy's hormones start going crazy earlier than girls. Also a girl's virginity means MUCH more. I think it's awesome that you are so close to your son. I think when it comes time, He'll talk to you about it before hand.
