Do you believe Americans' votes actually count toward electing a president?

Do you believe that the votes of Americans actually count toward electing a president or is it only decided by the electoral college regardless of the people's choices?

Ultimately yes, it's very rare for an electoral college representative to not vote as the voter group does or abstain and the electoral college has never chosen a president that didn't have the support of most electoral college votes.

It's also very rare for a president to be elected without the majority of American votes, I believe it has only occurred 3 times and only once in recent times when Bush beat Gore.

Yes I  do believe that the American voters actually do count towards electing a president... otherwise the government would not spend so much time trying to lie to the public.... there are many other factors... but lets just leave at that for now.

it does..but then again it doesn't....most candidates actually share a lot of the same views.for example the president and the person running to become president most likely share the same views about the military budget,defense,nuclear,etc..etc..
the views that they dont share is mostly personal beliefs..like gay marriage, pot legalization and what not.

Yes and no. While in most states, the electoral college goes to whichever candidate receives the most votes, there is still tampering and voting fraud that occurs. Additionally, if you support a 3rd party instead of the 2 main candidates that are forced upon us, your vote essentially vanishes. I've also heard from more than one source that if you do a write-in, they throw your ballot away. So yes, if you support one of the chosen candidates, your vote will count. If not...you are apparently out of luck.

My son and I discussed this just the other day.  Although it's the electoral college that makes the voting decision I think that a large turn out in constituents can definitely impact the way the college votes.

Yes and no, but mostly no. In half the states, the electorates don't have to follow the states popular vote. It's true that there has only been once that one didn't, and it's only been 3 times that the person who won the popular vote didn't win the presidency, but if you have a nail sticking up in the middle of your floor, you don't say it's not a problem because nobody has stepped on it yet. You fix it before there is a problem. The electoral college is outdated and needs to go. Until it does, you can tell yourself otherwise all you want, but your vote really means nothing.

Deep in my heart I believe the Electoral College elects whom they may, but I deeply hope that my vote counts.  I agree the electoral college needs to be addressed and a failcheck put into place.
