   Do you think people should discuss politics and religion on the internet?
   
   Since these are highly volatile issues, how should they be handled on the internet?

   I've always lived by the rule that the three things you don't discuss in polite company are religion, politics, and money. 
   
   So I don't discuss them. My religious beliefs, my political leanings and my financial standing ain't nobody's business but my own, on the Internet and anywhere else.

   Discuss them? Yes. Argue them until you're so mad that you have a stroke? No. I don't really understand folks like the ones that fit into the last group. If someone starts in on me I honestly just let it go, even if it's someone I know and love.

   Religion and politics are major threads in the fabric of our society and therefore, are open for discussion. The discussion, in an ideal world, would lead to a greater understand of different religions and opposing political views and would result in less animosity and better understanding. Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world and some people raise the subjects just to start arguments and others will raise the issues because they believe they have an important point to make or wish to create a misunderstanding.
   
   Since there are no real rules on the internet, the discussion of either can turn very hostile. Other subjects like gun control, the economy and education can create equally heated discussions.
   
   The best way to handle it is to voice your view, if you have something to offer, as politely and professionally as possible. You do not have to respond to all comments or replies. You can voice your viewpoint and end the discussion. The one thing that everyone needs to learn to do is not to let the discussion get hijacked by a person who just likes to argue. On Hub Pages, there are a group of Hubbers, who have never written a hub--a concept that is hard to understand, but they like to get to involve in the discussions. I have learned to either end of debate, ignore the comment or delete the comment if it has no bearing on the discussion. Many that I disagree with remain, as long as they are not presented in a rude or derogatory manner.

   Not really. Everyone has a different view point based off their surroundings in their life. Trying to convince someone with different views who has seen what they believe put into action, is very difficult.
   For example, my next door neighbor despises millionaires because her step-brother is a millionaire who she claims owes her some money. “My husband has worked for 50 years and my step-brother worked for 10 making more than my husband will ever see.” Since then, she has been a devoted democrat, trying to share the wealth. Not all millionaires are lucky, most earn their money and fight to keep it.Based off of one person, she hates a group of people. This happens all the time and is sadly misplaced emotions.
   If you start talking to her on the internet, nothing you can say would say that woman. It would be a never ending battle that only spikes heart rates, emotions, and stresses the individuals involved.
