   Absolutely nothing ! I'm the oldest of a flock of four and I wouldn't have it any other way, even though things were much better and easier for all three of my siblings, my youngest sister having been treated as the baby by all of us until she left home. There was never any sort of competition between any of us and we are still going along just fine, which to me is priceless.

   I know this is a little off subject, but why do you concentrate on only the negatives of life?  Why can't we celebrate what made us happy and what has gone right.  I refuse to dwell on the things in my life that others see as negative.  Everything we have lived makes us who we are today.  I have noticed this trend with your questions and wondered if this is on purpose.  Why can't the questions occasionally be what we liked most about something?  Our childhood is only a little over a third of most peoples lifes.  Isn't becoming mature being able to learn something from the not so good and pass on what was good?  I love you GM, but for some reason this occurred to me with this question.  Is there a reason or do you even realize that is what you are doing?

      Dislike is not necessarily equated to negativity.   Some people love their birth orders.   Others like or just merely tolerate it and still a few dislike it.    Then there are others who hate their birth orders.  Birth orders do present life lessons.

   I'm am the oldest of three children. Though I generally enjoy being the oldest sibling, the only thing that irks me is that when I was growing up, I was often the "supervisor" for my other siblings. Though there are only a couple years difference between each of us, I always felt more isolated from my brother and sister because I was the one constantly reminding them to finish their chores and to help around the house. Fortunately, as years have passed, my relationship with my siblings has started to blossom. I can't complain!

      Wrote a hub on the subject.   I know how you feel very well.   My mother was the OLDEST of 10(yes, 10!) children.   She was her siblings' supervisor in her childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.   It is a neverending story-NEVER ENDS!

   It depends on how you count birth order. For the first 20 years of my life, I was the second oldest of six kids and the middle of the three surviving kids. Since then I am the second oldest of six again...three natural and three step-siblings.
   I hated being the middle child - seems that my older sister got all the privileges and my younger sister got all the attention, while it felt that I was ignored and had no fun...as an adult I know that wasn't true and I was denied activities because of health issues, but it hurt then.
   As the second oldest of six now, I relish my position because my younger siblings look up to me for advice.

   Well, I am the youngest and I think that it has hindered my  being independent and making my own decisions. .
