What happened to the tag field?
I've been away for a couple weeks and went to create a new hub and the tag field is missing. Did I miss something??
It has been removed. Along with the RSS capsule. Hubpages is making adjustments. I think there is going to be auto tagging going on, but not sure of this precisely.
It disappeared all of a sudden. Am also confused about it. Won't its absence affect the discoverability of our hubs?
Not much. User-created tags haven't been used by search engines as keywords in many years, because so many cheaters would tag their pagea with keywords that their pages weren't relevant for. Now search engines only check tags to look for spam.
Hub pages have cancelled the tags. They are no longer in use.
I read awhile back that search engines no longer use tags. I hope this is true or our traffic from some search engines will go down.
Thanks for answering, cuttler. I was worried about the same thing. Best ~ fitmom
I was curious about it also. Went looking for an explanation, to no avail. I saw the notification that the RSS capsule was to be removed; but, if tags were mentioned in that same notice, I missed seeing their mention.
I'm more interested in the tags. They've allowed for several key-tags to be included. I'm not sure how I'd like 'auto-tags'. I publish a lot of collections of my poetry, which are inter-related, but often cover quite a few aspects of the main theme. Considering the general indifference or apathy to poetry, much less to its meanings, I can only imagine what an 'auto' tag would turn out to be! Oh well. We shall see what we shall see. . . . .
Hope it doesn't turn out like the auto correct on my phone! Hahaha.
I agree Nellieanna. Auto anything is going to be problematic in my opinion. Poetry would be especially challenging. Thanks for commenting. Best ~ fitmom
Nellieanna, I was very confused upon my recent return to see no tag section avail & I have the very same concerns as you do because I write more poetry than anything else. Some 'Auto-Tag' system won't work for completely creative works.
Tags and RSS capsules are being fazed out. You can read all the details at Simone's forum about it at: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/106827
Hope this link helps because it was posted by knowledgeable staff and many hubbers asked Simone specific questions which she answered.
I'm an appauling speller from time to time. It's phased no fazed.
Thanks for the correction, Safiq. You are quite right about the spelling error.
The new auto-tagging will be a plusss for usss missspellersss.
Thanks Happyboomernurse for providing a link to Simone's forum! Very helpful. Best ~ fitmom
I think I saw an update on hub pages several days ago saying that hub pages is no longer making use of tags. As these cause problems. If you do a search in your hub pages search window you should be able to find the communination from hub pages about tag and RSS.
You will also find a Blog entry that tells us why they are removing both
RSS and Tags:) go to the link and scroll down:
http://blog.hubpages.com/
They are getting rid of the capsules and you can no longer tag your hubs.
It seems that the tags were no help in getting traffic, which I missed somehow. Therefore they are pretty useless.
I am getting the impression that everything HP do decreases traffic and therefore earnings.
Perhaps some hints in the weekly as to how to adapt to the new regime? Would be nice.
I'm angry about the tags going away. Not so much about the RSS feeds because I JUST started playing with them and learning all about them. However I am very interested to see what "automatic tags" are used simply because I do A LOT of work when creating tags for certain posts.
Needless to say it should be very interesting to see what auto-tags are generated.
Oh and I disagree that tags are not helping search traffic...how can they not help?
~Becky
Someone pointed out that they were used only in internal searches not keywords for search engines. I inferred from this that they did not help generate traffic
Maybe that's the case but then I must wonder how the catergories here at Hubpages will be affected. Will auto-tagging re-reoute my XYZ hub into the ABC catergory? How will my fellow hubbers find it then? Does that make sense?
I agree, Rfordin. I worked hard at putting good tags in. Automated doesn't always work as well. Let's hope it doesn't negatively impact our traffic! Best ~ fitmom
I have wondered the same thing....one minute it was there and the next it was gone!

Hi, everyone! I'm making $0.01 per day or even less on some days, and I have already been actively writing Hubs for about two months. I have 14 featured articles so far, I think that I'm doing all I can, or am I? Am I missing out on something? Or is this the normal learning curve and should I be...

The tags you put in when creating an article... are those HTML META Tags? Google stopped paying attention to those in like 1999, and I don't think any important search engine uses them -at all-Is there any use in filling them in?

Hey Guys and Gals, Man, I have just about had it with the traffic issues here at the Hubpages. I have published over 100 hubs here in two years. I have won several awards, I have had over 10, 000 views, and I have a following of over 200 people. When this whole traffic loss debacle first occurred,...

I've come to the conclusion that in order to get people to even look at your hubs, you must post in these forums. It may help get a few more fans, but if it doesn't, what have you lost. I've come here to hubber's hangout to see if anybody will become curious about my writing. I'm guessing I'm not...
