Why Are Guns Allowed In The United States...

Why is the possession of a gun legal in some parts of the United States. Can you tell all of us who don't know what some states allow individuals to possess gun? I ask this question because I have little knowledge or understanding about this aspect of American life.

Technically not all - some people who have been convicted of certain felonies lose their gun owning privileges.

I have travelled through America several times. But have for most of my life lived in Europe and Asia. In most countries it is illegal to carry a gun. The United States Gun Law and Culture make my mind boggle. Everyone can possess a gun ....! ??

Its all about history. The armed civilians aided George Washington and US force defeat Great Britain so the US believed that having right to bear arms was important to keep peace and freedom.

To this point, it is a right for self defense, security and safety, and haunting. The are many rules and regulations to who can have a gun and under what circumstances. I am 19 i can posses a long barrel weapon provided i pass the test and all other regulations. Same rule applies for those who are 21 and older. If they pass the requirements, they get to buy registered weapons.

I am scheduled to a psychological evaluation this Jan. 12 2013 with the Los Angeles county Sheriff, and if i pass the valuation they will give badge and authority not sure about weapons.

You might want to learn how to spell or how to use spell check. The armed civilians you refer to was the colonial militia known as the Continental Army. The  US didn't exist until after the Revolutionary War, need to brush up on your history!

Perhaps 200 years ago and more when George Washington founded the United States life was different then the right to bear Arms was appropriate. Is that right not misused too often. That right through history has taken many lives.

Because the founders of the US wrote the constitution to protect the people from the gov't. Not the reverse.  They lived through tyranny and opression.  And they understood that a legal document giving citizens rights is worthless unless the citizens have the right to defend those rights.  Throughout history, when the gov't has attempted to impose heinous acts on their citizens, one of the first things they do is to disarm them.  The first piece of legislation of the Nazi's was to ban firearms for Jews just before they murdered 6 million of them.  The same actions were taken in the Soviet union, China, Uganda, Turkey etc.  In todays world, Iranian students were gunned down while opposing their rigged elections.  The citizens had no way to defend themselves because firearms are strictly prohibited.

Americans have simply become naive to think they are too modern and developed for something like this to happen in America.  Yet 1930's Germany was the most modern place in the world for it's time. And the Nazi's were freely elected to power.  The truth is that Tyranny has no expiration date. It wasn't but a few years ago that Slobodan Milosevic left mass graves all along the country side of what was once Yugoslavia.  The founders were long ahead of their time.  Guns are not toys.  They are dangerous.  So is a car if not used responsibly.   But without the second amendment, the rest of the constitution is worthless.

Land Mark Wealth thank you for your comment here and for taking the time to give me some detail. Gun and Government seem to be very deeply inter-related.

Landmarkwealth. Are you absolutely sure that the Gun Laws of the United States are there to protect people from government. It is a bit like saying that if your freedom is encroached on by government you are free to shoot at the government. ?

The right to bear arms was written into the United States Constitution as a way for American citizens to protect themselves from a Government that has assumed to much power and tries to establish laws that are created without representation.

We The People need to wake up to the fact that the very thing the Founding Fathers were trying to protect us from is happening right now!

If United States gun laws are meant to protect people from Political power I can only see that as ideology. In reality those guns aren't challenging political power they are being used instead to kill young lives.

They challenge political power when the political power attempts to impose tyranny.  Without that right the population becomes defensless.  And the trheat of tyranny can become a reality as it has all over the world.

Yes, you are correct the constitution of the US is about ideals and rights that this nation gave its citizens, the guns don't kill people, people kill people!

So the idea is that they be used for something besides killing each other!

To defend ourselves. It's not guns who kill people, it's people who kill people. The gun is only as dangerous as the person behind it.
