In your opinion, what is 2012 biggest story?

Ones choice depends upon ones interests and priorities. Some of the biggest stories : Gangnam style video, US Presidential Election, Death of US ambassador in Libya, Massacre of children and gun control issues (US), Death of Whitney Houston, London Olympics, Apple iphone 5 release and so on.....

I think the massacre of innocent children will be the year's biggest story because of the senselessness of it all and the fact that it is very fresh in everyone's minds. Very sad.

Am inclined to go along with the senseless killing of six and seven year old children and their teachers and carers as being one of the biggest, if not THE biggest story.  Moreover, I think that the story, in a way, has just begun.  2013 and beyond will see a gradual devide between those who believe they should be able to own a gun, any sort of gun, and those that are against gun ownership.  I think it is a conflict of interests which will go on for a long, long time.  Let us hope the 'Gun Lobby' doesn't win out.

As I said in an earlier Hub question answer, the 'right to bear arms' as laid down in the American Constitution was probably put in there when there was a real perceived need.  The British were still a threat and it was probably thought they might re-invade.  Also, the American Indian were still thought of as a danger to safety.  Plus the fact that a lot of people still hunted animals and birds for food.
None of this is now relevant, so what about an amendment to that section of the constitution?

There was a 12 year old girl who shot and fended off a burglar just 3 months back in OK. And as survivor of a home invasion thanks to my father using one of his guns, I still believe there is a real need for law abiding citizens to own them.

The super Typhoon Bopha that ravaged the south of Philippines .Over 620 people have been killed, 1,448 were injured, and over 817 more are missing  and over 322,043 people have been left homeless according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council .Entire villages were swept away by the powerful storm. Even after the wind died down, landslides and floods continued the destruction.

I would have to say the biggest story is the fiscal cliff.  It has an impact on everyone and displays just how divided the U.S. really is.

Before the children massacre occured, I would have said the London 2012 Olympics. It was a truly magnificent event that took along time to prepare.
However due to recent events, the children massacre is the biggest story

Romney's on the fly remark of binders full of women for something funny. For sadness, it is w/o a doubt the access to automatic weapons by people (Denver and Newtown) and the NRA's resistance to a needed change.

It is amazing how many big stories there were this year. I agree with many others that the Connecticut school children is probably the biggest. But the hurricane and super storm Sandy that devastated New York and New Jersey is certainly worthy of being mentioned. If you would like to read my first hand account of what this storm did you can read my hub: http://toknowinfo.hubpages.com/hub/In-t … cane-Sandy  After 9 weeks of having no heat and hot water in my home, I just got it restored this past weekend, but I still have a lot of repairs to do.Yet, I am luckier than most.

For me the biggest story was  the prediction that the world was going to end on 21st December 2012. It made all of us think more about our planet.
