Should your profile be the same on different social networks and websites?

On different websites and social networking sites do you think it is important to have the same profile picture and bio or should it be different on each page?  Do you think this makes a difference when it comes to gaining a following or audience?

For this case, it should probably be relatively the same info.  I am not sure pics matter - as long as they are all obviously you.

However, if you (like some- not me oc... lol) like to have a "rowdy" or "wild" profile for friends than I would definitely use a different name, different email, and different profile info for that one and use none of the same pics in both.

I think it depends on whether or not you're trying to build a personal "brand", in which case you'd want to make them as close as you can. You could still do that with different pictures (e.g. wear different hats relevant to the site), though. You'd tailor the profile details to fit the site, too.

Same profile will  help to get more personal attention. You can develop a 'Name' attention and draw more readers to your work by the same profile.
Different profile with different details will not catch that much attention as a 'same profile' brings to you.
You can attach catchy photos or back ground for different networks and website according to the subject or nature of the site.

It will help you to establish you as a brand name and search engines will be able to put you on the top of search results. Moreover where ever you make the profile do not forget to add the profile URL to the Contributor Section at Google +. See the wonders to happen as a featured author. You will be known by your image and branded profile ID. I am already following it. You can see my photo image in search results along  with my articles at HP or any where else on the web.

yes it helps you and helps others to easily find you and contact you and that's what social sites are meant for, CONNECTING.

I tried different profile and pictures but that doesn't gain me much followers. Instead, I changed all of them into the same profile and pic with hubpages, much to my convenience because websites such as triond, wikinut and expertscolumn required the same pen-name ( username) to ensure that the author is the same person for reposting.

Since very long ago I go by my nickname Escobana but I don't stick to the same bio everywhere. The only real bio is written on Hubpages because it is by far the most interesting social network I know.

Facebook is too commercial but effective with friends all over the world and I'm sure you'll gain more followers when you have several profiles with the same picture and bio.

I myself am not too busy with gaining more followers and earning more money. I'd rather keep a small group of passionate followers and earn nothing, than having to keep up with too many profiles on too many different sites.

I'd prefer to stay focussed on writing Hubs and give myself a break, whenever I feel overwhelmed by life itself. Whether your profile should be the same, depends entirely on the personal goals you'd like to achieve.

Mine is, mainly because I want to share my love of hats with the world.

I agree with the above comments that a certain 'brand' constancy is needed if you intend to develop your online writing into a big portion of your life. Google's recent "Google Authorship" beta is a good example of why your Google+ profile pic should be what you want people to know you as. And if your Google Authorship profile isn't tracking all your articles at HP and elsewhere, make sure you update your profile URLs over there.
