    When hub hopping do we rate Recipes as normal or as creative writing?

    I've always rated them as normal.  I've seen some really great recipe hubs out there that were organized and formatted quite effectively and shouldn't be rated as if they were fantasy.  Although if someone wrote a hub on a popular Second Breakfast for Hobbits... I'd have to read it first to be sure smile

    I would say rate them as normal hubs - the creative writing choice is mainly for poems and stories, they are something that is made up, or written for artistic effect, but recipes are factual.

    Great question.

    While culinary dishes can be a work of creativity, a recipe is a guide for creating said dish. As such, a recipe is a "How to" of a particular food. Strictly following a recipe to "build" a dish, if you will, is more of a science (Food Engineering anyone?).

    Inherently, I would say a recipe is not a work of creative writing. Some cooks and recipe writers like to include the story of how they came to this recipe. Generally, these are more a non-fiction piece to make the recipe more personal and fun.

    I would make an exception if the recipe involves a fictional, or dramatized, story. Or if the recipe itself is laid out in story format. A great piece of creative writing can come from any source of inspiration after all.

    *sigh*

    Now I may have to work on this idea.

    A very tough question to answer.
    Since recipe suggested by someone could be creative as in new way to cook a popular dish or adding extra ingredients to make it unusual (in a delicious way) does it mean that it falls into creative writing.

    Although it is a new way of presenting thing, recipes should - in my opinion - be rated as normal writing. Creativity is the cooking part not the writing part :-)
