A popular dentist committed suicide Do you think a person is in such pain they can't see a way out?
He had the love of the entire community. Does love not deter people these days?
Yes, I think that's why people commit suicide in the first place, and because there is a part of them that believe the people they love will have a better life without them, for whatever reason. Suicide is devastating, but I believe much of it could be prevented if we, as a society, gave more heed to mental illness.
Suicide does affect the brain, the person falls under a deep smothering curtain. They have many reasons why they kill themselves but mostly it's because they can't seem to find a out. Out of the darkness.
I think that suicide is seen as a way out of some feeling and I'd say it's a last resort. A person must think there is no way out and may want relief. No matter how much a person is loved their point of view is what counts. It's hard to say why that particular person commited suicide not knowing them at all. Maybe they felt pressured for some reason. Usually people that commit suicide believe the world is better off without them. Maybe he felt that he let people down. I feel for the community having suffered this loss and for what this poor person must of been going through.
From a very personal point of view I would say this is very hard to answer.
I know from my own history of a severe spinal cord disease and a torn esophagus which makes eating hard, I believe it's not my life to take. And yes the pain is severe but I still just feel killing oneself is not the courageous thing to do.
The courageous thing to do is to find away to live with the pain.
That doesn't mean you love the pain but it does mean you accept it because the only other choice is to kill yourself,
I'd never put myself in some one else's place or condemn them. But suicide over pain causes more pain for those left behind.
Dentistry has one of the highest suicide rates due to mercury poisoning (amalgam fillings are 50% mercury.) They're constantly dealing with mercury, though with the introduction of composite restorations, amalgams are less common than they were 10 years ago.
I guess popular dentist means huge success in professional front. It does not guarantee happy personal life. It is a notion that if a person is rich he must be happy. Medical profession requires lot of commitment. Sometimes we get so busy in our work that we ignore family, friends. With hard work we can reach to the top for sure. It will definitely make us happy. But when you are on top of your success ladder with no one near us it kinda hurts. Worst of all when we realize it extremely late.So balance is needed between both phases of life - personal as well as professional. Sometimes we don't see a way out of a situation and we get under stress. If we don't control it stress become powerful and suicidal thought can come to our mind. I wish that dentist has more patience.
I think when you see a no way out and you are surrounded by walls around you with no door to get out. We should take hammer (strong will power which has handle made of patience and hope) and hit the wall again and again. The wall will fall and we will seek a way out.
It is true people may have so tough circumstances to cope with in life that drive them to take such a drastic step of committing suicide. But suicide is permanent solution and it is also a ungrateful gesture to god who has given us life to grow.
Dentistry creates more alcoholics, suicides and divorces than any other profession. Think about it; we create more stress, inflict more pain, give more of ourselves and all in a 30 minute (or less) window of time. At the end of the day, after treating 20-40 patients, we return home, drained of love/emotion, fighting with insurance companies, exhausted from solving patient problems ie billing, marriage, social acceptance, fear, bad breath, etc etc etc. All we want is a stiff drink and the three S's, stillness, solitude and silence. Walk in his/her shoes for a day and you'd be outside throwing up! By the way, this information is not exposed in Dental school!
Its true that is very hard to answer. Some have raised a wall between them and the others, which is hard and some times impossible to accept, think or discuss with others a solution to your problem. Some their lives have followed a track of a circle that never ends and everyday they start moving on the circle trail from the same point. Its like an exusting routine which you have accepted to do to avoid problems where they appear and grow every day.
If you are asking on how to prevent someone from suicide, I am sorry but I must tell you that you will try but in the end its up to him not to do it.
To be actual to your question for the dentist, I assume that popularity wasnt his loving way of being. There are so many people that determine their lifes from a younger age for their future and they walk that way. But in the ned when you do that all you come to yourself thinking that it took you so many years to be there and you find out that there was not that important to be there and you sacrifized all those years.
You can correct what is wrong but you cannot change the past you has. You cannot correct the past. Past is something that has been done and if that history of your is the reason you are thinking of suicide, its up to you to accept it and live with the mistakes of the past.
I have been to the point of not wanting to go on. I truly felt there was nothing left to do. I felt I wasn't contributing to society, I felt like an utter failure and I felt anything I tried I would fail at so why not leave. Its an awful feeling, but you feel if you can just get to the other side. Get somewhere where there was never a down side only happiness and joy. I can understand someone committing suicide, who wouldn't want to be at that place where you feel good all the time and everyone is happy? Thankfully I found reasons to go on here on earth, but I really do understand why people do it.

Of course I won't but how would you react to someone who threatens to do this. Someone I know, fairly well, committed suicide this year. He had money worries and I feel really guilty that I did not take up his offer of carpentry work from a flier he put through my letterbox. I didn't know he was in...
