Do you do any baking? If so, what do you bake?

Yep, bread.  I have basal athritis so I use a machine for the initial, big knead, but I can manage the knocking back by hand.  Good Friday coming up and I've got my bits in to make Hot Cross Buns.

      Mick,
Hot cross buns? Yum. I'm going to look those up in my cookbook. I don't know if I'll be able to pull off baking them, but I'll try,.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

Yes, I love baking. I try and bake once  aweek and mainly enjoy baking bread, although I have recently been branching out into cakes, bread sticks, rolls and the like. There's an excellent show in the UK called 'The Great British Bake Off' which has sparked a renaissance in baking here.

      Paul,
That's great. The bread smells so good when it's baking. As for the shows, all we have here is a loud and mean guy named Gorden Ramsey who likes to belittle his chefs and toss them out of the kitchen.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

Yes, cookies and cakes and pies and squares, and just about anything else the kids or man wants to try. Been doing it for years, I have never believed in store bought goodies, feeling that they are better for my family coming from me.

      Eccentric,
How lucky for your family. You really bake all of the goodies? That is great. How healthy for all of you.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I have become quite good at making bread dough mostly for pizza. It's extremely therapeutic, although my nerves can't handle a lot of kneading. I've got a system down where I put all the ingredients in a large bowl where I'm able to stir it without kneading it. I let each crust rise in a oiled soup bowl and when it's time to make the crust I just flip it and it stretches to size perfectly.

I also make cakes and cookies, but try to limit that because, darn it, I'm too good of a baker for my own good.

I truly am out of my element when I run out of flour.

      jbshaban,
I haven't made pizza in years. The one I really like has seafood, alfredo sauce and dried tomatoes, and lots of cheese.
      Happy baking,
      Lisa

Love baking cakes!!! Got a sweet tooth! I like to bake though because I think it is better overall....also locks in flavors better than over the stove

      Breatheeasy3,
I do love cake, but it's off my list of foods right now. I'm getting ready for the hot season. Otherwise I could come over there and give in to my sweet tooth.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

The only thing I've baked recently was butterscotch/chocolate chip brownies. I just follow the instructions on the back of the nestle sweet chocolate chip bag and substitute half butterscotch.

I also tried to make bread once, years ago. I was probably 15 and the result was a couple tasteless bricks and a massive mess in the kitchen.

      djashburnal,
You could try those frozen loafs of bread at the supermarket. At least you could have the smell of fresh baking bread in the house. It tastes great too.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I make cakes, cupcakes, cookies and pies with the kids but I don't eat any of it.  It's all for them.  I wouldn't bake at all if I didn't have kids... Okay, maybe I would bake once a year.  With kids, I bake about 2 times a month.

      Li,
I know what you mean. When my son lived at home and he and his friends were around I did a lot more baking. Mostly cookies and cupcakes.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

Yes, I make bread, cookies, pies, and cakes. I love baking most of all bread good way to get rid of tension.

      WhatToCook,
Everyone keeps talking about how making bread takes away tension. I believe it's true. Short of playdough, what else do we have to take out our frustrations. I guess a punching bag would work, but then you wouldn't have bread to eat. Lisa

      rainpurplewine,
I can make the cookies and the muffins, but the pies, cheesecakes, and frosting seem a little advanced for me.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

Yes, I do baking. I bake a lot of coffee breads and cakes. Just today, I baked a cake in the shape of a bunny. I love baking, and do it a lot more than making regular meals. We have 2 cooks in the kitchen at our house.

I'm not much of a cook, but I make my own bread whenever I can, because it's so quick and easy and I enjoy adding my own flavours to it.

      stricktlydating,
I'm going to try and add some things to my bread like seeds, spices, herbs, and cheese.
      Thanks, Lisa

Mostly i bake bread, sourdough.  My starter is now almost 6 yrs old and I have carried it between 3 countries so far and shared it all 3.   Usually at least once a month,
I also make a sourdough breakfast loaf, I dont like real sweet things so I add some sweetner (agave nectar) and vanilla to my bread recipe and also add nuts and candied fruit like used in fruitcake.    Its great with black coffee
Also from time to time pies

My boyfriend and I just recently received a Kitchenaid mixer as a gift and we have been baking up a storm! We are beginners, but we have tried about 20 different bread recipes so far and have only had a couple of duds.

Our favorite bread recipe so far is surprisingly one that we found on the back of a local flour! It's a traditional artisan bread with a very Italian taste. We keep coming back to it again and again!
