Happiness is an inner state and does not rely on outer circumstances. The Buddha was married and so was Sri Ramakrishna and Anandamayi Ma. Still, there is a point, as demonstrated by all faiths, when the Higher Teaching requires celibacy. Without purity one cannot hold the Higher Forces that come down from above. Still, one must be ready. An intense faith in Something Higher and a one-pointed submission to this Will is paramount. Slow and steady is the approach for many.
Still, if one sincerely and surely wish to find God, then the transcendence of lower forces/desires are necessary, married or single. It is the misuse of the vital prana (life-energy), that is significant. I practice celibacy, but I started in the married life many years ago.
Still, one should choose wisely, as the life of marriage can also push one in a backward spiral. Choose well.

Well, I am single and happy. When I was married, I was mostly unhappy. So, from experience, I'm going to choose single and happy!

I made that choice almost 33 years ago when I married my wife. Before then I was single, happy, but unfulfilled.

A good marriage requires work, patience, some compromise, acceptance, loyalty and above all else love. If you are not ready to give that to the marriage, then you probably will not be happy.

Given that happiness includes feeling fulfilled and complete I choose single.
There is a freedom in being single that is difficult, if not impossible, to attain in a relation that requires a great deal of compromise.
Some feel a need for that balance of freedom while others don't so there is no right or wrong answer.
I have been in long committed relationships (27 years) and I didn't feel crushed but it did keep me from exploring some aspects of life.

I don't believe in marriage, because people always get divorce...but it took a the right man to make me see that divorce is not optional! It made me see that we are in it together and no one is leaving.

The key here is happiness.  In both instances you say "happy", so with that in mind...I would choose married and "happy" over single and "happy".  I love being in a happy relationship.  It is such a wonderful feeling to have the special someone in your life to care about and be cared about by.  It's all about finding the right person that remain by your side through the crazy ups and downs of life.
Happy and married begins with happy and single....If you're happy with yourself, someone is bound to fall in love with that.
