What is the best natural way to beat a sinus flare up? Ideas...

I have what I initially thought was a flu since last weekend. Now I realize its my sinus. Symptoms: loss of voice, sneezing, coughing, no headache or funny feeling in the sinus areas, tiredness, irritability from the coughing and sneezing. I really do not have a persistent sinus problem like some people do - flare ups surprise me. This is my 3rd or 4th major one, but the first time losing my voice for so long - its terrible. The mucus that I bring up (sorry) is pretty clear now so one would think the sinus flare up is at the end of its days, but nooooooooo. Only natural remedies plz. Thanks.

I used to have the same problem. I used a natural nasal spray with olive leaf extract, and grapefruit seed extract.http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Olive-Leaf-Nasal-Spray/dp/B00028PZ1E/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1365478135&sr=1-1&keywords=olive+leaf+nasal+spray By the mucus being clear it would imply that it was an allergy not a sinus infection, especially if it hangs on for longer than 2 weeks. I used QBC for allergies and it worked like a charm. Knock on wood it hasn't returned for years, if it even starts to act up, I break out the nasal spray. I've written an article on the subject. http://artist101.hubpages.com/hub/Is-it … or-allergy

Thanks for the responses so far. I was so miserable today I went to the pharmacy and got some claritin tablets. Such temporary relief. I have been drinking parsley tea/water as well as orange peel & garlic tea/water. At least my voice is coming back.

artist101 I just looked up the QBC you mentioned. It seems to get good ratings from users. could not remember the name of the stuff you recommended.

Hariom Singhal thanks for the saline recommendation.

Qbc from douglas labs is the best. It has all the necessary co factors for utilization, and a buffered form of vitamin C. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? … uglas+labs

    ohic32,

The best way to quickly fix a sinus problem is to eat lots of peppers and hot spicy foods. I do it when I feel congestion and pressure in my face.

Thanks lisasuniquevoice. A girlfriend told me earlier this evening to use cayenne pepper and some lemon for a tea and it should work like a charm. Loving the answers. Thank you all so much.

Hot beverages are excellent for thinning mucus. If the mucus is draining from your sinuses to your throat, you will want to thin out the mucus that you are having to clear your throat with. Zinc losenges such as Cold-Eze (not on an empty stomach) will help do this - it is the solution which many singers use for perfect clarity in vocal recordings when they have excess mucus.  Herbal teas such as peppermint will add a menthol like effect and clear your sinuses.  If you add the juice of a lemon wedge and add in honey (which will help your loss of voice - and honey is an anti-bacterial/anti-viral added protection) - it will be soothing on the throat.  The honey and lemon together (2 minutes in the microwave for 8-10 oz mug), should do the trick.  Singers, broadcasters - do this often.  Lemon is added vitamin C and will cut through thicker mucus.

For the sinuses - eucalyptus oil aromatherapy is fantastic for opening the sinuses so you can actually breathe. A warm bath with a few drops of eucalpytus oil will help you breathe easier.  If you are not into baths, put a few drops on a tissue and inhale.  Eucalyptus is an anti-bacterial and anti-viral oil and inhaled - helps the respiratory system.   When added to a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond (as you do not want to put the drops directly onto your skin) - put on the temples will help with sinus pressure and sinus flare up headaches.

Above all - you will want to STOP eating dairy products and refined sugars during sinus flare ups.  The more dairy you eat - the more mucus the human body produces.  Refined sugars tend to aggravate phelgm production, too.

    Good luck and feel better!

WOW...We Solved It, that response is a keeper. No dairy products since the flare up almost 2 weeks ago when I thought it was the flu. I'm still croaking a bit, but it much better now. I'll have to see about getting some stuff mentioned here.
