   What is your favorite art movement and why?
   
   I recently learned a lot about the Pre-Raphaelite movement in art history, and it has since become my favorite movement. I was just curious about what others consider to be their favorite movement and why.

   I guess I like the art work of Norman Rockwell and paintings by artists who paint people, especially the innocense of children. Not sure if it is considered classic art or not, but I also like scenery. Not sure what is meant by movement, as I am not an art student, but I do appreciate good art. : )

      Movement was a slightly too narrow term; I was just curious what people like hoping to broaden my preferences Norman Rockwell's ability to capture people's personality and emotion is absolutely amazing.

   Art Deco because  it's so decorative, then Abstract -- it stretches your imagination, and Graffiti, because of its energy.

      I did always find Art Deco to be too geometric, and I personally prefer softer styles, but I do love the use of bold color that is often used in the Art Deco style (in painting at least). I also love graffiti art and how expressive it is.

   I am a little more involved in the street art world. I admire the variety of street art, not just graffiti. With an endless possibility of styles (from installing lock-ons on to solid items on the street to old ladys yarn bombing) one can see my love for the street art movement.
   
   Although there is much to learn from street artists I also enjoy many other art movements that have occurred in the past. History is full of very interesting moments, and art movements are no exception.

      I can completely understand your passion for street art. There seems to be an unfortunate disregard for original modern forms of art like this and a consistent preference for the more formal and classic styles in the art world.

   I feel that dreaming is my favourite art movement..this is because, dreaming is different from actually what you got in your art. Dreams are more complex and difficult to put on paper. I think that artists dream a lot. It is the most valuable art in our mind even though some people cannot put on paper, but they dream.....

      Very unexpected but very true thought It's impossible to even imagine what art would be like if we were able to capture it on paper. That's something I have never thought about, but it is a wonderful take on art.

      That's what I think, because a person who doesn't know about art can still picture the work in mind. We all in ourselves have the capability to picture art in our mind's..this can be a precious movement to think through the curtain.

   My favorite art movement is MADI - the love of shape and color for the sake of love of shape and color. There's a tiny MADI museum in Dallas, and it's worth visiting for the vibrancy and uniqueness. I'm a huge fan of neoplasticism (yes, I totally geeked out when I saw 'Broadway Boogie-Woogie' at MOMA), and I think MADI is sort of an updated of that idea.

      I appreciate any art that risks the unconventional, and few forms do this better than MADI. I have actually never been to the MOMA, and I am dying to go.

   I like a lot of different styles but I do have a big soft spot for the Pre-Raphaelites!  I love their amazing attention to the detail in nature, their romance and drama, and how they seem to have illustrated all my favourite lyric poems of that time!  I had a print of Waterhouse's "Lady of Shalott" on my wall for many years:)

      One of my favorite aspects the Pre-Raphaelites is that they so well blur the line between art and poetry, and being a literature student, to see them both expressed in one painting is hard to contend with in my mind

   Oh that would have to be the Impressionists... Monet, and especially Renoir.  I saw an exhibit of Renoir's works here in Ottawa many years ago.  It was so amazing!  It was as there truly was dapples of sunlight actually glowing in his paintings.  There is something very beautiful and soothing about looking at impressionist paintings.

    For me it's the Pre-Raphaelite movement as well. One reason why I like it is because I've always been into the medieval knights and ladies thing. The other reason is because the Pre-Raphaelites were so connected to poetry - both as illustrators and as poets themselves. I came across this movement at about the same time I was starting to learn about poetry as well. I have learned a lot from them.

    My all time favorite is ‘The Last Supper’ (Leonardo da Vinci).  I am very much fond of painting and modern arts.  I enjoy all the historical pieces of art.   'The Last Supper' has a strong connection with one of my heartthrob books, ‘The Da Vinci Code of Dan Brown.’  It is all about Jesus and his disciples.  The right of Jesus is believed to be Apostel John having Apostel Petrus hands on him.  But the feminine figure is of Mary Magdalene who is cut throat by Christianity.  The relationship of Jesus and Mary is teared off from the history by the Pope and Church for their social status.  The live representation of an unknown history and makes it my favorite art movement.

    I love the Surrealists for their imaginative works and crazy sense of history and perspective and the fact that they broke with convention and introduced the absurd into a far too seriously high brow art world.
    Yet I can appreciate the Impressionists for their wonderful attempts to turn the paint, light and texture inside out. Great works.
    
    Most of all I embrace those individuals who are not in any school...Turner for his genius in sketching and landscaping and abstraction...Matisse for his intuitive feel for objects and colour....I could go on and on....Escher for his graphic brilliance....

    My knowledge of art is mainly limited to architecture (although art/architecture tend to follow similar movements), so as far as architectural styles I would say postmodernism and critical regionalism. Critical regionalism isn't so much a style as a way of thinking that uses the buildings culture and location to affect design decisions, which makes for a more contextually appropriate and sustainable building.
