If a family member broke into your house and robbed you, what would you do?
When a family member does you wrong you are torn on what to do. Do you just let it slide? Do you confront the person? Do you start a family feud? Do you call the cops? What do you do? So If a family member broke into your house and robbed you, what would you do?
I think some of it would depend on the circumstances. What were they after? How did I find out who it was? My personal opinion is that if they think so little of family to steal from family then I would have no problem letting the police deal with them. If that starts a family feud then those family members who defend a criminal have pretty low standards for how family should treat family. The victim did not do the wrong. It would also depend on the person who stole and my intrepretation of how they feel about it. Were they sorry? Did they return the stolen goods?
I agree with you that if family steal from family they are not really family but I have been disowned from my family a few times for taking action they didn't agree with.
It depends a lot on what your relationship is to that family member. For instance, if seldom seen step-uncle Joe broke into the house I would handle it differently than if grandma came in the back door and took back her heirloom necklace. You must decide how important that relationship is to you.
Very good point, but if you had such a good relationship why did grandma need to steal she should of asked. In my family we help each other out when some one asks so there is no need to ever steal from each other. Yet it happened.
When it comes in the Law, there is no relative, you should report him to the proper authority or to the police, what he do is punishable by law.
By law it would be, B&E, forced entry, home invasion and larceny. Each a 7 year felony but it is a family member thus emotion messes up logic, as family try and send you on a guilt trip for calling the cops on your own family!
I'd ask why he did that..he could be in deep trouble or something, just one good reason to make me understand him..after all we're family..but if it's not the first time, I'll report him to the authorities.
Thank you for responding and everything this family member did in the past was small theft like stealing cash from purses but recently has moved up to stealing bank cards, credit cards and now breaking into my home.
Getting psychical would just end me up in the hospital or in jail for assault. but I have to admit the thought did past through my mind but common sense won.

What would you do if a family member only contacts you when they want something?Would you keep a sibling at arm's length if they exhibit a pattern of contacting you only when they want something? Why or why not?

Would you take a family member to Court, if they could not repay a debt owed to you?(I can’t because it could ruin our relationship.)

How do you find a family member that you never met and no almost nothing about? My mother often wonders if her father is still alive. She never met him and has very little information about him. He would be at least 80 years old or maybe older...It would be nice to find out about him but...

Most everyone has a family member that's come out as being gay. If you have had or, in the future, had a family member come out, would you or have you shunned them? Either way, why?
