   Do you love Hubpages more for its community or for the passive income?
   
   Please explain why so, by your experiences here as a active community member or just as a person who cares to earn that chump change $. (This can be written in the form of a hub as an answer folks, if you wish to do so, please be honest, and make sure to use the answer capsule itself to do so while answering this question, these questions are meant to inspire hubs to be written as answers in conjunction.)    Well, I have been a member of HubPages for a little over a year, and it is strictly for the community and experimenting with writing just to see.  However, just this week, I went ahead and signed up to earn, so we will see how that goes.  From my understanding from reading others, I believe one could not make a living merely from HubPages, but look at it as more of getting the experience of writing to further future endeavors of writing.  But there are a few "success" stories too.

      Faith as long as you write up stuff that people are in need of like How to articles, or crafty stuff, recipes or even commercial writing here you will earn your keep for sure. Good luck! Thanks for the cool answer, this community is the best by far!

   Mike, since I still haven't earned the first $50 (even though I joined in October 2011), I'd have to say I'm here for the community.  I've made some awesome friendships from all over the world.  That in itself is amazing.  I've also learned a lot and have the chance to perfect my writing skills.  I earn a living writing outside of HP but HP gives me the freedom to write what I want and not follow SEO rules unless I want to.  The HP community is fun, loving, caring, willing to share and is comprised of very talented (although some not so much) writers.  I love being a part of the HubPages community.

      I love your honesty Brave, thanks for the awesome answer up there, yeah earning here for the most part is rough at times, but it doesn't mean we cannot improve over time with it all. I so love hubpages community, we've definitely met some cool folks.

   The community and hubpages helps me continue to write. With everything to keep me busy, it takes forever for me to actually sit down and write, or even decide what to write. Hubpages helps me with that.

      @lburmaster Trust me I know the feeling. I like your honesty and thank you for providing us a straight forward one. As for me my thoughts are running a mile per minute it seems and I've always had to many thoughts to write down LOL a burden maybe.

   I have to agree with bravewarrior.  I think I am still here because I like to read the Hubs.  There are a lot of interesting facts all in one place.  I have yet to earn my first $50 as well and I have been here awhile.  I think I am missing a trick or two.  Time to see if that tutorial is up and running again.

   While certainly I am interested in building (emphasis on "building") a passive income stream for the future, I have found some amazing people on HP that I probably never would have run across in other social media realms. I look at this as a social network of people who love what they do and love to write about it. I've learned a lot from many of them in less than 6 months on the system. Thank you for your contributions to the community!

   While my passive income has increased I have say the community has encouraged me and helped me to be a better writer.  I shutter at some of my earlier hubs.  They were flat out terrible yet people still read them and cheered for me.

   My question is why can't it be both? As a formerly active Wikipedian, I must say that you missed out one more option, i.e. self-satisfaction in writing. Wikipedia does not pay a single cent, nor does it have a community to speak of. All you ever 'meet' there is an administrator breathing down your neck, if you write something wrong. And yet, there are so many contributors there.
   
   I'm looking forward to the HubPages Apprentice Program but I just joined HubPages recently and I understand that there's a long waiting list. That program alone will be worth a lot of money, if you were to take a similar course outside.
   
   As for the community, there's nothing like camaraderie and a sense of belonging. This alone, is sufficient in itself, but money, whether passive or active, is always good. To say to the contrary is nothing but pure hypocrisy. And I've learnt a lot from the community in 6 weeks... more than I'd been learning in the last 2 years with my own websites.

      Awesome! answer WalterPoon, I love it for the community much more than for the money, because its not helping me earn much anymore. I was making payout every 2 months a while back, and now its like every 4 months. I love this community a great deal.
