I noticed the other day that my hub Modern Day Heroes was picking up traffic. When I researched it I found it was on the first page of the google search at number four on the list. (According to the comments several kids were using it for some school report on modern day heroes.) I decided to look at some of my other hubs and I discovered I have several on the first page of the google search, Famous Dragons, Pretty Spiders, Snails as a pet.. ect...
For being on the first page I would think I would be getting more hits. I am getting 50 or less per day per hub? is this average? i would think I would have more hits.. is there that big a differnce from being number one on the first page to just being on the first page? I realize a lot of my topics are a little off.. I know thousands of people won't be googling "Pretty Spiders"
Is there soemthing else I am not doing right or do I just need to beef up my hubs to get them close to being number one? Thanks in advance for any advice..
It's actually easy to get on the front page of Google through Hubs on certain topics but they don't always get much traffic as you can see. Use the Google Keyword Tool first and it will show you roughly what traffic the topic gets each month plus what it's click pays out.
It depends on a few factors. As you say, the searches may be relatively low becuase you've picked low-searched keywords. But - even if they're highçy searched, the traffic ebbs and flows.
I have one (for e.g.) that's a decent keyword and 99% of it's traffic is organic. Some days it's good, other days it's a trickle.
And you've got to do the math. If a keyword is a 6000 (average) per month, that's roughly 200 searches a day. You're not bound to catch 100 of the searches - though your chances are pretty high of catching most if you're on page one and in the top spot.
When you're talking about a micro-niche of say 1000 per month then it's down to 33 per day and so on.
But I'd still tweak. Why not? Most will tell you it usually makes a difference
I researched a little more ( boy i do not feel like working today!) and found that two of my hubs are actually number one in google search but all the words in the title have to googled to get there. Ahh those pesky keywords...Next hub will be built around them...
Well, that's what everyone is trying to tell you. If you Google the EXACT title of any website or Hub, then of course it's going to show up as #1 - but that's totally meaningless, because no one is going to be Googling the exact title.
What you are really trying to do is make it so that your Hubs show up well when a very short and general search phrase is used, not one that is long and unique to your Hubs.
I'm getting about 30 hits a day from a hub I wrote in about half an hour a few months ago on a fairly popular topic, it shows up at number 4 on a specific google search and on the second page for a more general, shorter search.
I'm working on another fifty hubs tat do that, and increasing the keyword payout, and then I'll be well on my way to my income target. At the moment the popular hub produces low value clicks so I'm half way there, just got to do the same with higher paying keywords.
Seems there is an art to the keyword thing I am missing.. thanks Relache.. thanks for your input Dennis.. hope you do well.
Wow! I'm new here at HP and very new to the forums. I'm learning a lot from you "old pros." Thanks!

Do you get more traffic per day, the more hubs you have? Or do I need better quality hubs?

I know that this is the most asked question here, but I'd still really appreciate it if anybody answered.I've been on Hubpages for about 6 months now, and I've just published my 7th Hub, and I'm starting to write a few more. As of right now, I have 239 total views, and each Hub has roughly 36...

Hi All,I wrote this hub in 2011. I used Google Adwords and thought it would be a great evergreen hub. WRONG! I have revised the hub and changed my title several times. Please tell me what you think. I have a thick skin. "You Need a Plan for Retirement" ...
