Hub length? With average pictures, videos, etc.

    I'm just curious...

With all the talk about writting hubs for money, I've been really looking at people's hubs in terms of content lately. (No one in particular, just any hub that I come across or sounds relatively interesting.)

I'm just trying to see an average for what you guys write for yourselves.

    * No, I don't plan on using this information for my own purposes except to fill my curiousity.

I'll start... This month my average word count is 1,131. My average pictures equals 5, and my average videos is .71.

    So, what about you?

It depends a little on the topic, and whether I am breaking a larger piece into multiple Hubs or trying to cram everything into one, but I aim for a minimum of 600-1000 words. My most recent was supposed to be a brief one, and came out at 850.

I probably average about the same as you, because I have some 2000-3000 word ones, while the ones that are just poems are relatively short.

I would average 2-3 photos, and I always include one of video and/or RSS feed, preferably multiples if I can find relevant ones. (The exception to that "always" would be Hubs that are poems, or some of the random ones I wrote for the HubLove contest.)

I love a good statistic, as long as someone else compiles the raw data, and I am not up for visiting each of my 89 Hubs to compile exact numbers the way you did!

But they are public property if anyone else wants to do it for me wink

I have no idea what my average is, but I suspect that my word count is getting longer and longer. My most recent hub is nearly 2000 words. I would say several of the most recent were probably at least a 1000 and I usually try and have several pics in each one as well.

I keep wondering how someone could possibly put a good hub together in under an hour. I spent a few hours on this one today and I've been working on it off and on for the past couple of days. Although, I will admit that I tend to spend far too much time fiddling with the capsule placement. They tend to drive me crazy LOL

Edit: Okay I just went and checked the past several I did. Five of them are all over 2000 words each, one is a little over 1300 and the others are between 70-800. I would guess that generally I'm somewhere between 700-1000, but the movie and tv hubs I've been doing lately have run very long because it is my favorite topic smile

I agree, which is what kind of prompted me to start really looking at hubs, since it apparently takes some people like a half an hour to write, find and upload pictures, add videos, tags, etc.

My best ones take days to write. My medium/short hubs take at least a 45 minutes to write alone, and that's if all the info is coming straight from my head without any extra researching. Pictures take forever to find the perfect ones and then perfecft placement. Tags are a whole other story. Ha.

I'm going to try out that new Flickr tool.

I'll have to take a closer look at my hubs but I would say I usually write about 500-1,000 words
(just about as long as my columns were although sometimes they topped out at around 2,000 words if there was alot to report about in the community)
Since I'm in experimental stage it could vary though since my creative juices are just getting going again!
I usually put 2-5 pictures, although since the last one was on photography I put about 8-10 pictures in it. I've added YouTube to a couple of my hubs, and most of them have an Amazon Capsule, and I'm just getting caught up with adding EBay to my hubs.

I find that getting pictures in takes a lot of fiddling.

Mark's new Flickr search toy is all well and good, but I can't just paste the link into the capsule - I have to download each image to my computer, save it, and the upload it form my PC. Takes twice as long.

But it does find nicer pics, I have to say. The ones on the Hub I did today are gorgeous.

Nice! Those pics are gorgeous. They are all from Flickr? I usually search Flickr directly on the advanced search page and then use the upload from web feature in the photo capsules. But I do spend way too much time looking for just the right photos sometimes.

    Where is Mark's search tool?

Ooooh! That is cool. So creative commons is the default search? That is seriously rocking!
