I've read LOADS of books that have impressed me.  I don't know if any of them have changed my life, but they've made great escapes.
One book I read a few years ago that I believe EVERY high school student should read is Gary Jennings' "Aztec Blood".  It is essentially the history of Mexico, condensed into one man's life story, which takes place in the early 1600s.  I was working night shift in a nursing home when I picked up the book in a pile someone had discarded.  What a treasure!  Someone had written notes all through the book, about all the pyramids and various sites she had visited!
My brother has a book that changed his life; he read it as a junior in high school.  It is "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand.  It gave him the drive to succeed in college, and he is now a cardiologist.
Ayn Rand wound up becoming his favorite author.  Unfortunately, I may have ruined that by giving him the movie, "The Passion of Ayn Rand" as a birthday gift.  The woman had few scruples!  However, I don't see why he should hold that against her; everyone has faults...

I love Ayn Rand's writing, but am not a fan of her politics or philosophy. Not many people understand that. The Fountainhead was a masterpiece that I feel ALL high school seniors must be required to read. Of course, that's why I'm not a teacher. smile

What  a great question. As a noob here on HP, I have only just completed "boot camp," but one of my first was about my love affair with Dorian Gray.

That will be my number one life-changing read.

Number two is Billy Elliot- from Billy I learned to keep going, even when the odds were stacked against me.

Number three is Sense and Sensibility. From Elinor Dashwood I learned patience.

    1. The Chronological Gospels by Michael Rood- lots of footnotes to tie the New Testament to the Old which helps Westerners understand the Middle Eastern culture, information regarding different Greek manuscripts to help clear up what was written, and a fantastic reading of the day-to- day ministry of Jesus while on Earth.  In short, a scholarly work that makes it all more alive and practical.
    2. The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. All about cellular biology in a readable format which really impacts my choices of things to think and talk about. Fabulous scientific research backing up scripture.
    3.  The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto.  Fabulous research on how words impact our health and the health of those around us.
There are more, but those three certainly have influenced how I live my life on a daily basis.

No. 3: The 21 irrefutable Laws of leadership by John C. Maxwell

No. 2: The 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covery

No 1: (Just recently) The Soul Talkers by Funom Makama. I just finished reading it yesterday, "The Soul Talkers" by Funom Makama. Trust me when I tell you this, it is a book full of suspense that will keep you seated and rooted in one place from front cover to back cover. The story is perfectly crafted into a blend of campus life, emotional saga, sports, peer antagonism and poetry and its contemporary nature just leaves me in awe up to this moment. When you read that, you will never regret buying any book in your life.
What a great page with thought provoking comments
