   What strong childhood hobbies or interests have you taken into adulthood?
   
   We all have some hobby or interest that we 'get into' when we're young but have you continued with anything specific that has a definite grip on you? Perhaps you turned a hobby into a job or an interest became a vocation? Could be a sport for example, or perhaps you collect things?

   Reading turned to wanting to write a book when I was about twelve.  So I attempted my first book, a story about North American animals, around 1948.  It was very hard work, I hadn't much idea what to do, so after some time, I gave up.  But twenty years later I did write my first book, Searchtime Expired, an story set against Aviaiton in Papua-New Guinea in the mid 1960s.   
   
   It wasn't accepted for publication, of course.   Very difficult to get anyone to publish ficiton.  But it resulted in quite a bit of praise and some hints as to how to improve from one publisher's reader. 
   
   The book was revamped a bit over the years and is now, in my biased opinion, a good read.   And since then I've writeen another dozen books, mostly non-fiction, heaps of short stories, poems, essays and even three film scripts.  So, my earlier bent to write did come to fruition...and I'm still at it.

      It seems you had a clear idea of what you wanted to do with your talents from an early age. You carried it through eventually, so bravo to you. Persistence pays off for anybody reading your answer!!

   Writing and music.  I was "writing" before I was old enough to read. I would take my pen and color on the lined paper making it look like words and then "read" my stories to my family.  I learned to actually read at 4 years old and then I started writing actual stories a couple of years after that.  Now I work as a freelance writer - so that was definitely a strong indicator. 
   
   I've loved music of all sorts since I was a baby as well.

      Fascinating insight. Writing 'words' when so young is unusual I think. Most infants try to draw an image or picture. Great that your calling to write stories was so strong.

   Arts and crafts have brought out my creative side since I was a child.  Writing poetry and short stories has done this as well.  Creative people try their luck at many hobbies which involve some sort of skills.

      That's interesting to note -  the images and objects of childhood hobbies inspired you in other creative areas perhaps? It's incredible how some people are talented in many of the arts, not just one.

   Definitely sports and games.
   
   I loved my sports as a child (mostly soccer) and I still use any excuse I can to kick a ball or be active in another sport related activity, especially if it involves teamwork. I'm not one for just running or walking.
   
   Games have also stayed with me closely from childhood to adulthood. This includes board, card and video games. I just love learning the rules of these sorts of things and trying to outwit a computer or someone else (all in good fun of course!)

      Great - you must have a strong competitive streak that's stayed with you, allowing you to spread your talents across all sorts of games and sports. Like you I love football...ok, soccer.....and played a lot when younger. Keep it up!!!

      I see there's some common ground here - a beautician works with the whole person? And herbal medicines make people beautiful on the inside?

   Creating things . I've always loved beading, polymer clay, macrame, reusing found items, upcycling old and broken things, and so on. While I've done these things separately for as long as I remember, in adulthood I've melded them all into jewelry design. In a saturated market like jewelry, it's helpful that I've also always loved psychology -- as an adult, that means market psychology and learning how I can improve my reach and tailor designs to my audience.

   Video gaming and all things associated. As a child I used to talk to myself a lot (and still do) because I don't have any siblings to talk to, so most of my ramblings helped my Let's Play series on my YT channel, as well as reviews both here on HubPages and on YouTube. I collect video games of older generations and I study the history of video games as well as its influences on the future, media and people.

      Interesting that you had to create dialogue with yourself - many actors do this - and it helped you launch into video. Do you write scripts too? Or is your world mostly visual?

      Thanks for the comment, Chef-de-jour! I also write my scripts and deal with the videos in editing, though I sometimes get requests and inspiration from other critics! ^^
