Does anyone know why Patty Duke calls her father (on the show)papo/pappo instead of father or daddy?

I have looked and listened for reason(s) as to why but I cannot figure it out.

I don't know about papo or pappo, but some people in English speaking countries still use "Papa" in referring to their father. I have two nieces that have always called their dad by that. I imagine Papo/Pappo is just as nice smile

At first I thought she was saying Papa, but listening closely it was Papo.

It is her term of endearment in hippie-speak of the era.  This subject was covered as a sub-topic in an episode when her boyfriend Richard tried to address him with her term of endearment when saying goodbye as they were leaving on a date, and he was told to call him Mister.

The Patty Duke Shows stills air here in Hartford every morning on the Antenna TV network and I watch it regularly. Every time I hear her say the word, it catches my attention. Maybe because it seems so unusual or unnatural.

The PDS sort of freaks me out even though I've been watching it for years. That's a strange world they live in, populated by teenagers who look like they're 28 or 30 years old.

Anyhow, it's great to see somebody asking about the PDS.

Are you aware of the Antenna TV network? It's almost all I watch. Right now, I'm watching "The Nanny". It's the best TV network I've ever seen.

I get that channel and still watch the show too. It also catches my attention when she says it, that is what made me ask.
