Prank gone bad.. what should I DO?

Earlier I had seen some guys send out email from an unlocked computer of a colleague and it went well in light note.

Today I saw laptop unlocked of a friend and tried to do something similar. I posted from his fb account that he was engaged. This guy is also a good friend. It was all in good fun. But he has taken it quite strongly. And has also deleted his fb account. I have tried apologising but he is still angry I guess.

Please suggest what I can do to fix this situation.

Give him a few days to cool off and maybe he won't be so mad.  It sounds like a pretty harmless prank.  If he is really a good friend, he will forgive you in time.

What you did is far from a prank...you betrayed his trust, invaded his privacy and misrepresented him to the public. Apologizing is not enough. You can't just apologize and move on. You have to be responsible. You have to clean up your mess. If your dog takes a crap on someone's lawn, do you just apologize and keep walking? Don't you think you have a responsibility to pick up YOUR dog crap?
So the question is how do you make up for the harm you did? Well they say time heals all wounds so give it a little time and then do something genuinely considerate for him. Maybe buy him tickets for two (not for you and him though) to a concert, give him a gift card, you know him, figure out what he'd like or could use and give it to him as a token of peace. If his friendship is of value to you, right your wrong and you will be friends again or else you are sending the message that his friendship is not worth anything to you, except maybe a laugh at his expense.

I have to agree with tsadhatko, changing something on his facebook account was an invasion of privacy. I would give him some space to calm down then try to make it uo to him in a way you know he will appreciate.

I also agree with tsadjatko. Besides apologizing to your friend, I think you should go on your FB account, apologize in public and write a retraction concerning what you said. If you're a really good friend, you'd also admit to people exactly what you did. Then tell your friend he can copy/paste your statement on his FB page so it gets to everyone on his friend list who may not be on yours. Sure, you'll probably be embarrassed to admit on that in a public forum, but I think it's only fair to your friend.

Excellent approach, wish i thought of it but then I am not a facebook enthuusiast. Never used it and never will because I am a private person and like it that way given the move ment away from privacy throughout society. You can't prank me that way.
