Is naming your child something bizarre abuse?
3 part question- Do you think it's unfair when parents name their child an unusual or bizarre name? Should it be considered abuse? What is the oddest name you have ever known someone to have?
If the worst thing that parents ever do to a kid is give them an odd name, then I'd say they are doing pretty good. People can always go by nicknames easily enough.
One of the more unfortunate ones I have come across is Dick Trickle.
Dick Trickle, are you serious? WOW...lol I don't think there is really anything criminal by any means when naming your child moon unit lol except the fact being a kid is hard enough, especially nowadays, the torment it could be bring is what is sad.
LOL! That one always made me laugh and I don't know how the NASCAR announcers could say it with a straight face.
"Dick Trickle" isn't a name, it's a medical condition.
If my name were Dick Trickle I'd say "please, for the love of God, call me Richard!"
The governor of the Indian state of Kerala is named Governor Dikshit.
That isn't intentional as your question asked, but I just came across it, and thought it was pretty funny.
FreddysFat- That is hilarious!! Haven't heard that one haha..
I think it's unfair for sure to name your child some very odd name, like above. A name really affects a kid's perception of themselves and can help or hinder them in life.
I think people have the right to call their children whatever they want, but a child should also have the right to change their name if they want. I would say it is abuse at a certain point, but of course this doesn't mean the government should intervene, but maybe the grandparents or family should give the parents a talking to about growing up and not being selfish.
For the most part, I like the unusual names. I wouldn't go so far as to like the one in your example. No, I don't think it's abusive. The most unusual name I've heard (other than some celebrities and sports stars) is Lavender Rain (first and middle name). That's one of my co-workers daughters.
My son's name is Lyric, and I get people that think that's weird. Then I hear some famous person named their kid Audio Science and I'm like...uh ya sorry Lyric is not weird!
I've never heard of anyone named Lyric, but I like it.
I don't think it's abuse but I do think it's horribly irresponsible.
I almost don't mind unique names as much as average names that are spelled 'uniquely'. One of the kids in my neighborhood is named Abbygayle. Not doing your kid any favours with that.
Ya there is a little girl in my sons class and her name is miracle spelled Mircle.
It is a little unfair of parents to name a child a terrible name, but then again, that is all a matter of opinion. I actually can't stand the trend I've seen lately with parents. They name their kids super old fashioned names... like Gertrude or Bernice. I picture senior citizens with those names, not kids. However, it is up to the child to make the most of it. She might opt to be called Trudy or Bernie or something.
If it is a really bizarre name, like Apple, I don't think that is fair. I also don't think it is abuse either. Once again, I think a child can make the most out of an unusual name. They can go with a nickname or use their initials. My name really is Jeannie and I gave up trying to stop the genie references long ago. Now I simply embrace it.
As far as the weirdest name I've ever heard, I knew a girl named Fartun once... pronounced "Fartin." I felt bad for her, but I am sure it was a lovely name in her own country, just not the U.S.
Fartin is pretty bad, like you said it might be beautiful in her country though. I went to school with a kid name Harry Dix, the saddest thing is he was really poor and overweight and he was tormented, I really felt his parents were cruel.
Im not sure whether I was watching the 2nd or 3rd season masterchef USA ...But I recall one the contestants , a single mother naming her kid 'Danger'.
This definitely irked many . When you dont know what to expect in the future I.e whether your kid will learn to appreciate the thought process behind your name or curse you for doing so. So why wait to find out the answer.Play it safe parents....give your kid a name that stands out , but not something that could spell 'trouble'...literally
Caged soul
I think it depends on the name itself. If someone were to name their child something like "Sapphire" then it's a bazair name but it sounds beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated so it's okay. Although I feel that if someone were to name this child "Beautiful" just like in the photo then it's almost cruel, like you're expecting the child to look, act, and think beautifully their whole lives and that's just not humaine.

Should there be laws against giving a child a truly stupid or offensive name?If you are about to name a child something that could damage them for life or create real problems for them - should that be outlawed? or should parents be able to get away with anything they want? Where do we draw...

Spanking as a form of disciplineThe are many parents who believe that corporal punishment is necessary for successful child rearing. Is that true? Or is spanking another form of child abuse?

My parents used to hit me as a child, but did that mean they were bad parents? I got smacked across the face and all over my body.
