Why are atheists so concerned with Christianity?
A believer is not likely to be persuaded otherwise in this forum, and vice-versa. And it won't affect the life of the persauder even if he/she is successful. So why even bother? I stumbled upon HubPages and it appeared that it might be a good conversational site... but all I see is one side of a purely personal belief trying to convince the other... about to delete this bookmark.
If religion debate bothers you then yes you may want to go ahead and delete the bookmark. Now to your original question. Most are so concerned with it because it either has impacted them in some way, they care about others that are treated poorly because of it, or they are tired of having to constantly be bombarded by beliefs they do not support that are shoved onto all of society (in USA). The internet is the place where everyone can vent and express their views. I welcome that!
There is a wide variety of people here. Some people here are just trying to persuade others. Some have honest questions and really want to know about others beliefs.
Some just want their beliefs to be known and not try to change others' beliefs. That's why I'm here and post my beliefs as answers to questions. I understand that it would be stupid to base your religious beliefs off of something you read on the internet, even if those beliefs are true. If I convinced someone that I was right over the internet I would be encouraging them to do just that. I just state what I believe and let people figure it out on their own if they want to agree with me.
With non religious topics I might be more persuasive.
I can't speak for other atheists, but my goal in religious debates is to provide perspective. I don't intend to convert anyone, nor do I believe it's even possible in this forum. Rather I want theists to see atheists as complex individuals, rather than simply villains. Too many generalizations about atheists show them as self righteous jerks and that simply isn't true.
The only reason Christianity is so often on the other side is because it's the dominant religion in the United States. So its followers are the most vocal and its policies are the most likely to affect atheists (such as legislating using Christian values). I'm sure atheists in the middle east argue more against Muslims.
A great many atheists in the U.S. are 'in the closet' about their beliefs because they worry about the backlash if they came out. And, I can't blame them since the simple act of stating it is interpreted as an 'attack' on Christianity. My hope is that one day, someone admitting they are an atheist warrants no shocked response. It's no different from holding other beliefs, so I don't understand why it is so reviled.
This is a good question, it is in line with an article I wrote called Why Do They Hate Jesus Christ?
I mean if Jesus is just a fairy tale like the tooth fairy, then why the hatred and mockery of him? Looking at our mainstream culture in America we can see that blasphemy of the Holy Bible and Jesus is the central theme.
I think it is because Atheist are being controlled by demons, and demons know Jesus is God, and that they have no salvation, also demons hate humanity.
Here is the article:

Kinda sorta reminds me of the endless iPhone vs Android debate -- yes, I'm aware that there's no actual comparison of the topics. If there is an answer, there's no way for us to really know, but that doesn't stop us from crowing our opinions.

Why Do Religious People Get So Angry At Atheists? When it comes to Atheism, most religious people get angry and even combative when it comes to this subject. I wonder why, especially in this day and age, one would feel anger towards another human being with a different perception/outlook/belief....

Why are some Christians threatened by Atheists?Atheists are not a particularly large or unified group, so why is there this impression (in religious media and discussion groups) that atheists are a threat? Usually it comes in the form of questions like "why are atheists so mean?" or...

I don't know, maybe this is just a disgruntled Rant by myself, alone.I call myself a Writer. By default, this makes me a Reader. And, as someone who has the arrogance to think I am good enough to call myself a writer and a reader, I have opinions, on my works as well as the works of others. So, with...

That's me in the corner... As someone who lost their religion a long time ago; I've recently realized how normal my spiritual story actually is. I already knew that it wasn't unusual - but 'normal'? Now that I think about it, it does seem as if the scales are tipping. More formerly-religious...

Does it make me close minded if I can't understand why people are atheists?I guess how is the better way to say it. I seriously question everything...like facts from history, ect...but for some reason Ive never questioned religion. I grew up in a Christian home, not a SUPER Christian home, but one...
