Why are some cultures allowed to flaunt UK laws?
Whilst being a multiculturist and non-racist I find it hard to reconcile the fact that certain non-christian cultures ate flaunt UK laws with impunity whereas if we lived in their country and flaunted their laws we would not be allowed to get away with anything. What do you think?
What laws specifically are being flaunted? By what culture?
I live in Canada. Sometimes I see people doing things that are against the law or things that are considered to be wrong by most people. People from other countries do things their own way even though they are no longer in their home country. In some countries you would not be able to get away with breaking their laws or going against normal behavior. You would get into a lot of trouble.
While I get what you are saying places like the UK and Canada are supposed to be open minded and nice. We are nice so we tolerate behavior that we consider to be inappropriate even though we could not go to their home country and disregard their laws and traditions.
I like living in a nice country. So I like things the way they are.
I suppose you know one of our High Court Judges has advocated the application of Sharia Law in England?
Maybe if we started stoning people who entered illicit relationships...
There are some laws that have never actually been repealed, such as hanging for theft. Sending them to Australia is off these days, so maybe the rope-making industry will benefit? It's just a thought.
One of the drawbacks of immigration and the cultural changes it's brought to some areas is the mass closure of public houses (pubs), but that goes in common with the closure of post offices in rural areas, i.e., economics, and uneven tax laws that give alcohol sales in supermarkets the edge on pubs. Although in areas of greater migration from south-western Asia there's less business for publicans due to their rules on alcohol consumption (in public).
There aren't any actual laws being flouted, just customs and the claiming of financial benefits (handouts) for families of those who claim they'll be persecuted if sent back to their country of origin. As you say we're a soft touch.

Do you support globalisation? Why or why not? This debate will continue indefinitely, but it is worthwhile to keep in mind how we can make the most out of globalisation and minimise the harmful effects it creates.
