What do older people mean when they say 20 year olds don't know anything?
Are they talking about life? Love? Importance? Opinions? What exactly are they speaking on?
Definitely they are not talking about gadgets -- it is something that old people know nothing of (according to 20 year olds!).
Old people talk about wisdom -- worthy knowledge about what is really important, what is really valuable, what is really longer lasting in life. Things that make life more peaceful and balanced in the long run. That wisdom comes through experience, awareness and observation. It comes from willingness to learn. Willingness to accept the unpalatable.
They're talking about them not having enough life experience to put things in perspective. Secondly our 20s primarily used to discover who we are and what we want out of life. It's an evolutionary period.
Every 40+ year old looks back on their 20s and laughs at how ridiculous they were to believe they "knew it all". Someone who is just a couple of years removed from living under their parent's roof or a college dorm has a lot to learn about themselves as well as life.
"Youth is wasted on the young" - George Bernard Shaw
Almost everyone who is "seasoned" wishes they knew then what they know now. Experience is life's greatest teacher.
That usually is generally directed towards:
1) attitude
2) tone of voice
3) listen to your words. It may make sense to you, but to others it may sound like you 'know everything and don't try and tell me otherwise
4) closed mind (not open to new ideas and this isn't about whether or not you want to or don't want to try something new)
5) some people have been hurt by decisions the younger generation makes. Especially those younger AND in charge, but unwilling to make a smart choice or lacking in knowledge on whatever subject the decision was made upon. If hurt often enough they will make a comment like your question simply to vent not hurt others
