What's your preference: fiction, poetry, how-to and/essay writing and why?
Since I'm a poet. I enjoy poetry. I love hearing the beauty of another persons words.
I love reading fiction, it reflects how deep a person can think, his extent of imagination. Also, its interesting!
Anything except poetry. Mostly I write essays but once in a while, fiction and How-to.
i love how to topics, i wanted to learn how to quilt, how to trim off the garden weeds, how to bake, how to cook, how to defrost, etc. More stuff to learn
I go for poetry and short stories. Good poetry has that elemental feel to it, it challenges the mind and heart but can also release the emotions like no other form of writing. Poetry has a mysterious side to its nature;poetic language is distilled down, shaped, sculptured, rolled around in the mouth and mind and can bring inspiration similar to that found in certain types of music.
A short story has qualities a full blown novel stretches out and sometimes dilutes to the point of tastelessness. I like the way modern short stories don't have to follow the formula of beginning ,middle and end but rather reflect the life we experience in this high tech, fast moving age.
I've noticed some magazines I'm writing for want material that 'challenges the heart and mind.' What is your definition of that phrase?
With poetry it's the form, how a line carries the language, offers different sounds, apart from meaning. It tempts the imagination into new areas, sometimes dangerous, often beautiful.
I love fiction. It's fun to write and exciting to read.

I'm trying to say that, even if it's in our heads, it still exists in our heads. And what's in our heads is our heads. Our mind, our soul, goes to a subjective after-life,...

Personally when i write i use a little of both things i have been through in the past as well as thoughts that pass through my mind. I find that this makes for an interesting and intense novel for readers; However lately i've been hearing that the key to a fantastic novel is only writing about the...
