   Any piece of media has the potential to change peoples' lives; it all depends on the person and the media they've come across.
   
   I'm usually more of a TV and movies kinda guy, but as far as books go, I can say only one really changed my life: "Swallowing Stones" by Joyce McDonald. It's pretty much your standard young adult contemporary fiction novel (though a damn good one), but not only was it the first book I read by my own free will--it wasn't an assignment or anything--but it was also the book that inspired me to read even more. I probably would never have read any of the truly great books that I have if it hadn't been for that modest little novel, and even to this day, I pick it up once a year and read it all the way through in, like, a day. I love it so much.

   Definitely a book can potentially change or heavily influence the course of one's life. A good book can help in course corrections too.

   I could be facetious and say that no book ever changed a life unless, perhaps, you tripped over it and it caused you to become a paraplegic.   However, the message or messages contained within the meaning of the words written by the author could do so.  That would depend on how both your intellect and heart felt about what you had read.
   
   If the emotional message was strong enough, and meaningful enough to you at that time, I'm pretty sure it could.  Especially if you practiced until it became a habit whatever was espoused by the writer.   For example, I am sure that Wayne W Dyer's book, Your Sacred Self and Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now, and A New Earth, all of which I've read several times, have  impacted my life.    Their messages continue to influence my chosen behaviour...and what more could an author ask than that?

   Absolutely! I became a writer and a vegetarian because of influential books that I read. Even now, when I re-read something I read when I was younger, I'm shocked by how much it influenced me.

   I have used the example of a book, funny enough, to answer one of your other questions.
   
   Now ALL is Spirit. There is nothing else. Still, this Spirit utilises many instruments. A Maestro may not teach you music, but he can still help you by using one of his students. In the same way, our Beloved uses many instruments. Some people find God by going to a lecture, or listening to a friend, or just seeing something on T.V. God uses many instruments.
   
   Books cannot change one's life but they can act as catalyst to awaken the Light which is already within. Just simply hidden. All forms of transformation relies on the power of Grace but the instruments may be many. Peace.

   Yes, i read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand and it changed my way of thinking and interacting with other people.
