    Is There Such a Thing as "Clean Eating?"

    What is clean eating and how can you do it in this modern day?

    I like to grow my own veggies. Can you eat clean today..not really.
    I did give out food samples at stores a few years ago. I noticed the people who ate boxed and bagged foods were heavier and aged faster than those that ate fresh or frozen food and even processed meats (yes hot dogs are better than processed starch).
    If it is not a whole grain low carb cereal  in a box I won't buy or eat in.
    That said most of us are going to eat unhealthy foods at friends, work or at restaurants.

      I like to do this too! I have a small garden in my backyard that seems to grow bigger every year. Not only does it make me feel great, its also an awesome hobby to do with the family.

      Meat on the other hand, I have to buy as i'm not a hunter sad

    I know that my answer will differ from those who use the standard "clean eating" definition, but I can not understand how anyone who eats animal products can be seen to be eating "clean"-- even organically-raised animals will have viruses, bacterial conditions, high levels of chemical residue and heavy metals, etc., not to mention the processing (even if minimal) and time from the kill to the plate.  I believe that eating an organically-grown plant-strong, whole foods diet is the closest you will come to 'clean-eating' today.  Don't get too fussy about the details and do the best you can within this domain and you will be healthy and happy.  (Read T. Colin Campbell's "Whole" if you want to know more about the subject from a scientific nutritional point of view).

      Thank you for responding. I understand your philosophy about not eating meats but vegetables and fruits and whole grains can have heavy metals and chemical residue from winds. we can never be 100% sure of the soil.

      I agree Stacie, but I think the closest you can get is veggies grown on an organic farm like the one our son has in a valley that was not farmed prior to their arrival there. (Thanks for the thumbs-up Alicia tongue )

    Now that is a very good question.  The only way I have found is to grow my own food.  Because terms like "organic" and "natural" does not mean what we wish it did.  It is a difficult challenge. 

    To me it means free of pesticides and chemicals.  But also free of the dangerous components of plants and herbs.  I am talking about ingredients like carrageenan, derived from a plant, so considered natural and found in many organic products.  But it is carcinogenic.

      I agree with what you said about food being free of pesticides and chemicals. Thats part of what I think is clean.
