As a country we no longer stand for what our country was founded on.  We have become lazy, greedy, entitled, anti-Patriotic, and outright mean.  We are a nation of self-centered, selfish, me-first do nothings.  We accept violence as the norm.  We have become a country of blamers.  We blame everything wrong with us on everyone else and don't take responsibility for our own actions.  It has gotten worse and continues a downward spiral.  We are on a crash course to implode.  Expect to see war on continental US soil in the coming years.  If not foreign invasion, civil war and breakdown of all that we know.

Quite the contrary, but if you choose to stick your head in the sand like an ostrich, you put a huge target on your rear.

Everyone alive will admit it's not exactly nirvana these days but very few people can envision another "civil war" taking place on American soil. That would mean the end of democracy. Who'd be on which side? Control the nukes? CIA, FBI, Military?

I suppose you don't think that the Boston and Cleveland riots are anything to be concerned about.  People are so inclined to shoot others than to throw a punch.  No I'm not for gun control. It doesn't control criminals.

There is always reason to be concerned when their is civil unrest or riots. However based upon the history of all the riots that have taken place going back to the 1960s or even in LA in the 90s nothing comes close to an actual "civil war".

The one thing that will have it spreading like wild fire and cancer is social media.  People are copycats.  It will be widespread sooner than you might think.

I can't imagine (civilians) coming any where close to defeating our armed forces and overthrowing the federal government. They would be considered "domestic terrorists". In order to pose such a threat there would need to be military/gov. coup.

I suppose it depends on how one defines advanced,
Without a doubt people are living longer and there is more modern technology than anyone could have imagined just 50 years ago.
When it comes to social behavior and morality it seems every generation feels the future generation is destroying the fabric of the nation.
I can only imagine what those adults from the 1950s and prior generations thought of the long haired hippies, Free Love movement, drug culture, Vietnam protests where (58,220) soldiers died, Feminism, The Cuban Missile Crisis, assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK, riots, and the Charles Manson murders...etc
Some folks no doubt must have thought the world was ending.
Compare those times to now and it's a stark contrast!
And yet many people have revised the past to call those times "the good ole days". Feelings of uncertainty about the future causes people to ignore present day realities. If it were possible hit a global stop watch right now it's doubtful anyone could say today is worst than the 1960s, Great Depression, or World War I and World War II eras.
For many children, teens, and young adults these are the times they will look back on fondly and call their good ole days!
    Perception is reality!

We have undoubtedly advanced. Racism still exists, but it's miles beyond outward segregation. Homophobia is declining rapidly. Medicine is still advancing. And, despite acts of violence, there is an equal number of people who march peacefully for causes that are important to them.

In fact, we just survived a financial crisis that could have destroyed us. But it didn't become a second great depression. We repeat a lot of mistakes, but we also rebound a lot quicker. There are always things to worry about, concerning the future, but we're not on a downward spiral.
