Is the United States obsessed with guns?

In short, yes and people become so caught up in their "side" of the issue that they refuse to give any concessions at all.  I am not pro disarming the entire country, but common sense gun legislation that is properly enforced is badly needed.  We are an incredibly violent society.  This is coupled with the fact that we are also a paranoid and fear mired society.  Combine that with almost unfettered access to guns and it's a recipe for disaster.

The mentally ill should never have access to firearms, period.  Those who have been arrested and convicted of violent crimes, especially domestic violence, should not have access to firearms and should have their guns removed from them.  Open carry is just stupid. No one needs to open carry a gun to go buy a gallon of milk - it's preposterous.  Those who are so afraid of life that they feel they have to have a visible gun to go the store in my mind scream instability.  I don't want someone who would overreact whipping out a gun and opening fire.  Their right to "feel safe" is not greater than mine.

Private businesses should be allowed the option of denying people entrance who are armed.  I would never want an armed person in my business and I should have that right too.

We are so silly stupid about guns in this country and I can't figure out where it comes from.  When the second amendment was written they had muskets, not semi-automatics.  We need to be reasonable.  Should people be allowed to hunt? yes.  Should they be able to protect their residence and family? Yes.  Do they need to be out running around like this is the wild west all over again? No.

Completely agree about mentally ill and previously arrested but it can be so difficult to gauge if they are or not. The fear and paranoia is the most destructive part of our nature as human beings, and we definitely could use stricter legislation.

Interesting that nowhere is the subject of God's view , and because people X him out of the subject many pick their own protection , you can not have it both ways if you are a true follower of Jesus.
Jesus told his followers to put away their wepeons. Because the Heavenly Father would send a legions of Angels if needed.
But Phophesy had to be fulfilled and events  was allowed to be carried out. Jesus was also known as a Archangel , the first and most powerful of all Angels.  Known by his heavenly name Michael,  Jesus says with confidence ,
    New World Translation
Joh 16:33 I have said these things to you so that by means of me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but take courage! I have conquered the world.”

he did not say take up arms for protection and he clearly made this as counsel ,
    New World Translation
Mt 26:52 Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.

Also his followers would be the true ones that would apply what is written

Isa 2:4 He will render judgment among the nations And set matters straight respecting many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, Nor will they learn war anymore.
    because we are God's people.
We do not have to kill or fight any battles other then our own sinful flesh.

You can't have it both ways for sure. It's hypocritical and selfish to think you can abide by a higher power and completely dismiss it at the same time.

Yes. Though, I suppose it would be more accurate to say "part" of the U.S. is obsessed with guns. Some use guns for sport, some use it to protect themselves, and some worship guns as if they could turn water into wine. It's that latter group that tends to get the most media coverage. It's a dangerous cocktail of a powerful, profit-driven lobby (NRA) and straight up paranoia.

Good points, it feels like other countries just think Americans are a bunch of xenophobic, obese gun loving rednecks (some probably are) but it's not true.

yes, definitely, it seems that a commoner can purchase guns like you walk in a hardware shop to buy a hoe. That is why the crime rate is rising. Guns should be controlled by the law.

Good point and I agree, but the black market will be so tough to control. Criminals aren't really going to walk into a store to purchase weaponry, they'll get it off of some guys van. It's that part that must be curtailed in order for progress.

Yes, The United States is obsessed with guns. Guns is one of many negative obsessions in the United States where there are Constitutional and State Rights to be wrong. It's up to We The People to demand re-reads, re-writes,and revisions of laws and interpretations that make absolutely no sense in today's situations.

We could use an update on a lot of these traditional laws because we're evolving so rapidly yet our constitution is far too stagnant. Other countries are laughing at how silly and loose our laws are.

People take the right to bear arms w a y to literal. When that was instituted it was a much different time than now, but the conservatives will never change that the right to bear arms.
