I would like to know what Christians think fearing God means.

I am open to any ideas seeing as I am a bit unsure of what is meant do to varying statements within the bible. Mind you, I have read the bible but the one I read does not have verse, chapter etc. At least not in an easy to understand way. Thank you in advance.

Are you asking about God Fearing? That tells me you have not read the real bible, but some other book written by someone who is not an authority of Christianity. "God Fearing" means you are earnestly religious, you don't stray from the bible and you never break the ten commandments. It also means you go to church regularly, are part of the Sunday school teachers, do things within your church and uphold the bible in all situations. You also don't drink, don't get tattoo's, don't smoke or go partying. You don't have pre-martial sex or anything else.

JLaurenScott:First of all I have read the Bible it is just a Bible that is no longer in circulation. It's copyright is 1966. I know all the stories, parables, prophecies etc. Please do not assume I am ignorant of the faith because I ask about what fearing God means. You did not even tell me your view of what fearing God means. You merely gave me things you do as a result of fearing Him. By the way I do almost all you mention but an honest Christian would say they struggle with some things that fall under the commandments like false idols which include anything that you value more than God. I also keep holy on the Sabbath day and do not eat unclean meat (I do not expect anyone else to do this ...I was guided by God to do such. I think fearing God means not wanting to hurt Him by poor choices I make here. I was just hoping to see ideas that others have about this. I actually do teach Sunday school too...for grades 3-5. It is a judgement on your part to assume my ignorance....be more careful and patient with a response so you don't jump to sinful judgement rather than righteous judgement. May God bless you.

I see it more as a reverence, an acknowledgment of a higher power in whose presence there is no room for arrogance and excessive pride, nor anger and hate, room only for humility. It's a beautiful thing. Have a nice day.

I look at fearing God as the same type of fear I would have towards a father. It is not necessarily like being afraid of Him but more like a love and respect of His authority.God is a being of love. He wants His children to love Him. "How could one love Him?"one might ask and that is to obey Him. Just like a child should love and obey his father. There is no one that can perfectly do this. The wonderful thing about God is that he does not expect us to be perfect. We can not let God down because we were not the ones holding Him up in the first place.
I also think that the fear of God is excepting his sovereignty. Look a the story of Job he was like the most sinless man besides Jesus recorded in scripture. He was said to be blameless and yet God allowed him to suffer immensely. One of Jobs faults was not quite understanding the sovereignty of God. He wanted to personally ask God why is this happening? God finally speaks in a whirlwind telling Job to stay brave and tells him things that shows him he is so finite. He shows Job that he or anyone for that matter can not begin to understand everything about God. I find myself wanting to do the same thing as Job.I want to question God,but at the end of the day we are finite and simply should not do such things.

Very nicely said. I especially liked the part about us not being the ones holding Him up. It is important to remember His sovereignty as well. Your phrase as well as remembering His sovereignty reminds me to leave it all in His hands. God bless you.
