Do you think the government is magnifying division between US citizens for their own agenda?

    IMPORTANT!

They make certain groups seem "uncivilized" and play that into the media, as if a majority of a group is the cause.

Politicians do that, but not the Federal government as an institution.  If anything, I think more efforts are made are unifying the populace rather than dividing.  But there are elected officials (and candidates) on both sides of the aisle, who seek to divide. They will focus on a particular group or movement, etc.  I think the media, whether it be a mainstream or advocacy journalists, do a pretty good job at calling out inconsistencies in treatment. You can't get a away with a lot today.

This tactic goes back at least to the Byzantine era. Make each group fear/hate/compete with others for favors and promise that only you, the elite, can look out for them against the others.

Well in the media the one that is portrayed as bad would be the white cops who shoot black kids. I totally agree some of those were terrible and the cops should go to jail. However some of those ppl were thugs and being resistive, I can guarantee many of the blacklivesmatter people who even shoot those ppl if they were acting like that. It is common sense. I am not saying white officers are innocent. Around half the national headline cases I believe the officers were wrong and should be jailed! However whenever a black guy gets shot even if resisting, by a white officer there is a protest. However when a black man shoots a black man gang related which happens more often, no one gets mad? That is racism. Or how about when that ganster shot the other gangsters little kid last week? Where are the blacklivesmatter people? For reals.

Now for the muslims, they are given a pass too. No one will quote the violence that is incited in the quran, they call them terrorists and not real muslims. Well that is what the quran tells its followers to do to the indfidel aka the non believers.

Then the illegal immigrants get a pass as well and get all this free stuff here. Well in actuality they are bad people because tons of people want to come over legally and do it right but the criminals mess it up for them. You know they can come over steal and sell drugs and they don't get in any trouble just sent back over?

Don't forget the Christians who are portrayed as haters of gays & muslims. We don't believe in those behaviors. We should be able to believe whatever we want, religious freedom. We are not the ones killing.

Roob, Agreed. A black guy shooting another black guy, is self hatred. Wow the quran promotes violence in modern days is hatred. Muslims and Christians need to agree to disagree, and love each other anyway. Christians don't hate gays. United we stand.

Hi Ann. If their book preaches violence and hostility towards non believers, it should not be be allowed. It is hate speech towards other religions and even atheists. However even with the rise in terror, people seem to attack Christianity more.

People have the right to practice their religion, but if it promotes hate and violence, I agree with you, it should not be allowed. The Hip Hop Rapper - Mos Def says he's a Muslim and he's not down with the violence, he loves Christians as well.

Not all muslims truly follow the quran, same with Christians & Bible. The quran no doubt says to kill people who don't believe, it is an evil book. Just because a rapper "follows" it doesn't mean its peaceful. He's not a true muslim who live by q

Yes, I think the government is magnifying division between US citizens.  Look at this "White Privilege" myth that was invented in the past year or so.  And what someone called on Youtube (which I find funny), "The Rise of the Dindu."  As in, "he dindu nuffin!"  People making excuses for bad behavior, and blaming another group of people.  Granted, slavery was bad, but I wasn't hearing so much angst about it until this decade.  All of a sudden white people are automatically racist, and guilty of everything wrong in others' lives.  This will continue to divide America a little bit at a time, but I think one of the biggest factors here is this presidential election.  Like I said before, as we get closer to November, and if Trump is the nominee and he is head to head with Sanders or Clinton, people will go berserk.  If he wins, I don't know what to expect.

Lolita, No one can blame anyone else for not being successful, but the person in the mirror. People need to let go of the bitterness, hatred, and division. Black ancestors will never hear an apology for being in slavery by cruel white oppressors.
