Home is something that is most beautiful place in the world. Wherever we go around the world but we love to stay in our home make us happy. Home was created by group of people who always with us in happy and sad moments, things that we used from day we born. Finally it was like palace we can be king and queen. No need to be big building small house with lots of love is enough for perfect home.
The adage 'Home is where the heart is' comes to mind. That may lead most anywhere with thought long and hard. And, when I did CNC/NC programming (Lather and mill) the starting point / position of the tool (Holder) is known as home. Zero was on the work in the lathe or mill. The tool begins at Home and moves to a point at the work. In other words Home is a starting place and also the point of return.
Home to me has many implications. I don't always exchange house for home using them generically. I may be at friend's or someone's place and have a feeling of 'Home'. I might share with them I 'feel at Home'. Sometimes I will be somewhere and say I am heading Home. So, there seems to a contrast of some sort. Other times I will say even in the same setting 'At my house this or that'. Again, there seems to be some contrast. The implication seems to be 'Home' has its own personality / character as if is alive in an odd sense. Maybe it means full of a life of its own.
To me too "home" has meaning over "house". And "home" can travel with you everywhere but a "house" cannot .
I understand your meaning. I wonder what ticks within me when I do say that "I'm heading home now". Does that mean I want to take the present feeling to my location or does it mean I don't feel at home at that moment adding to your explanation.
I easily relate to all your ways of relating to "home" Tim. Meanings for "home" flickers and moves moment to situation. I don't see there neccessarily being a fixed interpretation for "home"...except there is for "house" . Home has feelings for me...
When I focus on "Home," my mind is filled with a stream of numerous thoughts. The term takes me back many years to a happy, active childhood with my biological family. I can recreate visions of our home, each room and moments spent together. I can see myself, my sister & parents seated in our den watching TV after dinner, always in the same spots as though we understood our "assigned" seating.....My sister & I always sharing the couch, being silly by hoarding the pillows and blankets from one another and trying to prove who was "boss of the couch," as we giggled.
Even our neighborhood block has a sense of "home" to me because we lived their for what seemed like forever. I can name every family for every house on our street. We were comfortable, safe & protected.
Once we were independent with families of our own, we spent lots of time in this home, this neighborhood and our quaint, friendly village. Our children got to know their grandparents and each other and understand the fondness we had for our "home."
Now, all these years later, as the lone surviving member of my birth family, in my heart it's all still very much my "home"~~the house, neighborhood and village. It takes me back in memory whenever I'm there and literally feel the warmth & happiness of "home."
No matter where I have traveled, and the many places I have lived, both near and far....I am the living, breathing reality that "Home is where the Heart is."....For me, this is so very true.
Excellent question I am pleased to answer, ThreeKeys. Peace, Paula
