What are some specific things that cause your marriage to work?
What are some things that cause you and your spouse do to make your marriage work?
In answer to the main question, every marriage has ups and downs but the highs come when we respect each other and walk closely with the Lord according to God's Word. A commitment rooted in our marriage covenant before God compels us to work through the lows and get back on track. Thankfully, humbly turning to Him for wisdom whether there is a high or a low means we will see His faithfulness to help.
That’s awesome. I absolutely agree with you. A marriage where God is at the center keeps you on the right path. We must always trust and turn to Him.
Knowing yourself well enough to choose the right mate for yourself!
The goal is to find someone who shares your same values, wants the same things for the marriage that you do, (naturally agrees with you) on how to obtain those things, and last but not least have a mutual depth of love and desire for one another.
{Compatibility trumps compromise!}
Like attracts like and opposites attracts divorce attorneys!
There is no amount of "work" or "communication" that can overcome being with someone who simply does NOT want what you want!
There are only two ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships: We either get what we want or we learn to be happy with what we have. Accept them (as is) or move on.
People are fond of saying "Marriage is hard work." however the reality is finding the "right mate" is the real hard work!
After you've found the "right mate" for yourself the so called "work" actually is a "labor of love". It's the effort required to maintain it!
Much like a gardener who gets up early in the morning to till the dirt, plant seeds, add fertilizer, water, pull weeds, and build a fence if necessary to keep pests out.
A "non-gardener" might consider that "hard work" but the gardener views it as a "labor of love" to have the results she/he wants!
Granted you're not going to always agree on the "little things" in life but the goal is to find someone who agrees with you on the major things in life.
Ultimately it's all about "Us & We" and not "You & Me" in a marriage.
It's real hard to make a marriage work between people who don't want the same things or if one feels as though their mate has to "change" to make the marriage work.
You want to find someone who (already is) what you want in a mate.
Life is too short to be attempting to "change water into wine"!
You are so right. Some people do not focus on finding the right mate, they just settle for what comes their way. And then later on they find out, they are too very different people. Good response.
