Why are people MORE LENIENT towards the poor than they are towards the wealthy?
Because the people who don't have money think that money will solve all their problems so therefore they think that people with money have no problems which is not true. Just.my opinion.
Grace, if you need to be validated, I will do that for you. I don't know you except essentially from the questions you pose here at Hubpages.
I grapple with your style and strength.
However, I am prepared to say to you, well done! If you are living the good life? You have done well. Big Congratulations! Enjoy it. Live in comfort until time is up.
No, I don't need to be validated at all. It seems to me that people view the poor as helpless children who need to be rescued while they revile the rich as so-called exploiters. The poor are akin to the retarded children in the class!
Given the large number of people incarcerated for being unable to pay various fines, I would not say more lenient to the poor. I think there needs to be more accommodation of those who literally cannot pay such as income based fines instead of a flat $500, $5000.

According to Malcolm Gladwell in his book, Outliers, the answer is no.Gladwell showed repeatedly that whether people who succeeded or not, depended a great deal on how much wealth and education their parents had. For example, children who have the benefit of a private school learn a lot of things...
