      I'm sure he meant what he said. He remembers how the democratic party used to be. Thats why he appeals to the youth. Maybe all youth are hippies. Then they realize the error of their ways: once reality hits and they have to survive in the real world. Most boomers who used to be liberal hippies are are now conservatives, I would guess. Especially the breadwinner ones.

      I know it seems foreign to you, being from a tribe that supports their leader no matter how corrupt or incompetent, but Democrats actually don't agree on everything and often criticize each other.
      
      Paul and Mitch ought to try it sometime, given the unpopularity of their leadership.

                           I hope for a kinder and gentler nation. Where civility trumps selfishness and ignorance. Where insults aren't the first resort when we encounter those we disagree with. If we find a window of opportunity, I wonder if those such as yourself can garner the intestinal fortitude to help forge a new dialogue; standing in stark contrast to the current culture of regurgitating insults and simply posting ignorant posters in an attempt to create an argument about something inane...that the person they are speaking to has never given them reason to start.

                              First, pardon me if I find it strange that you long for a "kinder and gentler nation" where "civility trumps selfishness and ignorance" but voted for Trump.  I can't wrap my head around that.
                              
                              Second, if you consider criticizing Mitch and Paul and the GOP for standing behind Trump no matter what he says or does to be uncivil, but voted for or continue to support Trump, then you have a double-standard.
                              
                              Last, I did not go after any individual on this forum.  It is a fact that the Republican base hates celebrities talking about politics.  It is a fact that they elect celebrities when they run for office.  It is a fact that you characterized the Trump presidency as "the same thing we always have."  It is perfectly logical to surmise that if one views electing celebrity Trump as "the same thing we always have," then one would certainly view electing another celebrity as "the same thing we always have."
                              
                              But, in real life, I work with conservatives every day.  I serve in our local government in a county that voted 65% for Trump.  I'm married to a conservative (yes, he's now a Democrat because of Trump and the craven way the GOP supports him, but that doesn't change his ideological bent).  So, this idea that plain speaking is somehow uncivil is weird to me, especially given the guy you voted for.  But, hey, it wouldn't be the first time I didn't understand a Trump supporter.  And, believe me, I've tried.  I just can't see any rational reason to support the man.  I guess I'm just defective that way.

                                       I don't think accusing me of backing idiots like Ted Nugent or being supportive of Trump by declaring politicians, in general, are sleazy money grubbing self absorbed jerks was the beginning of a constructive dialogue. Attempting to converse by making up falsehoods is typical of the 'dialogue'.
                                       
                                       And, if you are incapable of understanding why someone might accept that Trump is no worse than any other choice we were presented with then I am left to assume party politics trumps rational discourse for you, as it applies to our exchanges.

                                          I did not accuse "you" of anything.  I made generalizations about the Trump base and Trump voter, just like you do all the time about liberals and democrats.  If you want to take offense at my generalizations, that is your prerogative. If you want to be consistent in your criticism and not be a hypocrite, though, then you ought to refrain from the behavior you're decrying and call out others who do the same thing
                                          
                                          And, remember, if you voted for Trump, you certainly did not further civility or a "kinder, gentler nation."
                                          It fascinates me how Trump voters will get all butt hurt about civility, when they set the tone by installing the most openly uncivil politician to ever grace our nation. It's like chastising the kids who fight back against the bully, after siccing the bully on the kids.
                                          
                                          I would NEVER vote for a man like Trump if he had a "D" beside his name.  Never in a million years.  I have voted for Republicans; I have voted for Independents; but I would never vote for a self-admitted sexual predator.  I would never vote for a pathological liar, or anyone who bullies, belittles, and brags like Trump.  I don't care if he had the same policies as Bernie, I would not vote for a person of such temperament.  Never.

      The concept of courtesy and civility is over the heads of some. I laugh at comments about Obama being decent and civil, as if his good manners is supposed to gloss over everything being said by a person who can recognize his courtesy, but not the ridiculousness of their attempt to use it as justification for being otherwise.
