Reddit - Is it worth posting articles/videos on Reddit?

   I know we have talked about this before on the forum. I have been posting my YT videos on Reddit and it doesn't seem to do anything for my account. As an update, has anyone had any success with posting on Reddit?

      Don't do it. They will hate you for self promotion there. Yes, you will be shadow banned. If you use Reddit, just use it for what it is.
      
      Here's the thing. If you can get someone else to put your articles there, but not often, just every once in a while, then that could be a good thing.

         That is really interesting. If you don't get someone else to post your stuff, then someone has to like your stuff so much that they post it on their Reddit account.

            Yeah. You'd need a close friend who was active there. You'd also need to only ask them to do it when you were sure you had a very great piece to share, and not too often.
            
            I had one person I had considered asking that favor of, but I never did. In the past I had Reddit accounts and shared my stuff, I got shadow banned quickly.

   I never had much luck with getting traffic from Reddit so eventually I gave up trying.
   
   I do know that to self promote there, you've got to do it sparingly, otherwise you'll get called out as a spammer and that crowd will eat you for breakfast.
   
   That aside, I noticed that one of my articles started randomly picking up views from Reddit about a week ago --  but I didn't link it, someone else must have.

   You can also get "shadow banned" on Reddit if you post self-promotional links. That means that even though you keep making posts, those posts are only visible to you while logged in, but others can't see your profile or posts.
   
   Edit: Probably not as final as the "Usenet Death Penalty"

   There are a couple of subreddits I frequent, but they don't pertain to anything I ever write about, so I have never tried to mine reddit for hub views.
   
   From what I can tell of reddit, it is a place where people post the most exciting or outlandish things going on -- often items that are quite buzzworthy, whether that means something unbelievable, hilarious, controversial, ironic, super cute, rage-inducing, a brand new take on a hot topic, etc. so that these things may be discussed among fellow reddit members. Discussion is the main point there, not just posting stuff for the sake of posting it (or for self promotion).
   
   I agree with Wesman Todd Shaw that you should only post really great hubs there and only if they are especially newsworthy or discussion-worthy. Post your own work there very sparingly if at all, because it really is not an audience that is accepting of random self promotion. Posting a link to a relevant hub in response to a discussion someone else has started would go over better, I think, than starting new threads out of the blue with links to your stuff. It might also help if you are a regular contributor to a specific subreddit, and members there already know, trust and like you. It is usually very obvious when a random person, who otherwise never contributes, comes along and posts a bunch of their own links.

      Great information. Thank you. It sounds like one needs to be more than just active at Reddit. They need to be part of a community of some sorts.

   I get regular traffic from there but also spend a lot of time interacting with the community and posting links that have nothing to do with HP or HP niche sites. The other thing the do is if they ban you for self promotion they ban your entire domain - so when a hubber gets banned on  a subreddit that subreddit will ban the niche site as well.  I've had to get some moderators to reapprove a couple of niche sites from being banned in the past.  Some wouldn't do it being general jerks about it.  It is a harsh community with some subreddits being really nasty.  There's an entire subreddit dedicated to subreddit alternatives.  I've been getting involve with saidit which is small but slowly growing.

      Wow! Sounds like you are really working it. All your Reddit/Subreddit action is has nothing to do with HP?
