I see a lot of topics and categories, but what’s one area you guys feel is lacking in terms of content?

      Hi Joe,

The thing is, it's not what we hubbers want to read, but what people in general are searching for.

Similarly, it's not what HubPages' topics are lacking in content, but what the internet in general is lacking.

Readers come from outside the site, not from within. Internal traffic is negligible when compared to search engine traffic. So that means you need to identify a need for information on a certain subject. There may well be plenty of articles on that subject already out there. Your job is to make your article offer more than they do so it becomes the go-to resource. You're aiming for your work to land on the first page of Google results for your topic/key phrase.

Click on Help, top right of any page to navigate to the Learning Center. You can discover how the platform works and what you need to do to be a success here.

Welcome to HubPages and good luck smile

Edit: I took a quick look at your article (I didn't read it thoroughly), but it is all in one text capsule with no additional formating. As most people read on mobile devices these days, you need to format it so that it looks good. Trying to wade through that big block of text is off-putting. That's why you need the Learning Center.

Hey thanks for that, didn’t realize all the capsule stuff. This was a big help being new to the site.

When I first came to HP, I wrote the whole article in one text capsule too. It makes it hard when you go back to change it--and you will. First of all, using several text capsules lets you add pictures in the body of the article. Or quotes. You can also use interesting subtitles to grab people's attention.

Try to always start an article with at least 3 or 4 capsules, more if it's longer. People like to read short paragraphs of three or four sentences (I still have trouble with that). But you will see how beginning with a bunch of text capsules allows you more freedom, and eliminates headaches down the road when the administration institutes changes.

          Good luck and welcome!

I would be most intrigued by an in-depth study of the proper care and feeding of rutabagas.

I think if any of us found the magic uncovered subject we'd keep that information to ourselves.

    OP no longer exists.

I guess I'm not gonna get that article on rutabagas then.

FatFreddysCat - I'm working on it right now. I couldn't resist the temptation. Stay tuned. Aiming for Wednesday and your wishes will be fulfilled, or not.

RaggedEdge offers useful info. In getting to know HP you'll find it helpful to read a variety of posts, including those on topics you are not really interested in. Welcome to HP.

Tis done pursuant to Fatfreddyscat's request. I know we can't promote our stuff here but how hard can it be to find an article about rutabagas in HubPages?
