Are Vaccinations Helping or Harming Us?

   The major media outlets constantly report about vaccines, with most publications saying they are safe with low risk of side effects.  Outside of that circle, there are countless numbers of counter-arguments which attempt to connect vaccines to autism and many other health issues.  Furthermore there has been a growing debate on whether vaccines should be mandatory or not.
   
   Some questions, such as why are healthy people given vaccines?  It's the only known medical treatment where the patient starts healthy and is made sick by the medical community.  By getting a vaccine, the immune system functionality is disrupted from it's normal "learning" process.
   
   What are your thoughts on the subject?  No area is taboo, so please feel free to take us on any path you see worthy of writing about.

      There is a way to administer vaccines safely: not so many at one time and in Europe they won't give children under two vaccines at all. I think thats a good idea. Wait till they get stronger. Keep them out of parks and schools tll two, just in case. Some children are susceptible to autism if their genetic constitutions are more gentle or weak.

         That has not been proven. The accusation was made by a report that was based on very limited research and later verified as false.

   Contentious. Perhaps you have read about the Dr that died from the yellow fever one.
   
   I'm going to Africa soon and advising my team. Some take very little, others none at all. I really do not know the answer.
   
   Some experts speak of health and physiology. So if you are run down, let us say, you are less likely to do well.
   
   Many alernative therapists do not like them and big pharma makes tonnes of cash. I have taken them for my profession, but generally avoid the flu vaccine.
   
   I feel that one should read on the subject and then make an informed personal choice.

      and what about the vaccine for lock jaw/ the anti tetanus vaccine?
      
      I would hate to get lock jaw for stepping on a rusty nail ... or what ever.
      
      But nowadays they give you a flu shot when they give you the tetanus shot Even if you tell them you just want a tetanus shot!
      I was so when I found out Kaiser gave me the flu/tetanus shot after I demanded tetanus only!!

         You claim a vested interest in the heath and well being of the unborn and children. Unvaccinated individuals put to risk pregnant women, children too young to be vaccinated and people whose heath prohibits vaccination.
         
         Can you resolve the inequity in those positions?

      I agree with you. At one time children were not allowed to attend public school without proof of DPT and smallpox vaccinations. Those diseases were wiped out until helicopter mamas read the Wakefield Study, concerning the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine, which was later said to be invalid by the medical community.

      All of a sudden all vaccines became taboo. As a result diseases that wiped out many of our young a century ago are returning. Perhaps the people who don't want to be vaccinated should form colonies and live in them so they wouldn't infect the rest of us, our children and grandchildren.

   This discussion shows how some are literate but uneducated. Important things such as this need to be understood by the entire population. I don't directly attack people, but anti-vaxxers and those that think this is a debate need to be isolated and put into quarantine.
   
   Autism is a genetic issue and people are born with it. Only in extreme cases is it realized at birth. It is a spectrum and some are never really diagnosed with it and can spend their entire life as 'normal' people.
   
   No, vaccinations do not take away from the normal way the body copes with stuff. Vaccines are the virus in its weaker form, so the body notices this and fights back and creates antibodies to fight the real deal if it ever has to encounter it. The same body would not be able to fight the real deal had it not gone through this process of 'potty training'. There would be some, a few that survive it, but not all. If that's a route the society wants to go, so be it. Fewer people on the planet is always a good thing, right?
   
   If vaccinations are a 'free choice' the virus can infect the kids of these people who 'chose' to be uneducated and in some cases, it would mutate and be a different strain, a strain that the rest of the educated and smart people are not protected against. So because of a few dumb people, entire populations could be wiped off. Anti-vaxxers are akin to people standing by genocide.
   
   There are absolutely 0 papers that show any real statistically relevant info linking vaccines and autism. Let alone, hard scientific proof.

   Fifty years ago, people were relieved to have vaccinations for terrible diseases. Now people are voluntarily not taking them, which is painfully stupid, not to mention dangerous.
   
   There have been recent epidemics of measles and other diseases because people aren’t vaccinating their children. Multiple studies show vaccines DO NOT cause autism; one man said it without any evidence ages ago and the conspiracy theory caught on.
   
   Anyway, even if it all were true, I’d rather my child have autism than die from polio.

   In everything we do, there are risks and benefits. We opt to do it when benefits outweigh the risks. It is the same with the vaccines. There are a few unlucky cases, but if you avoid vaccinating your child, the circustances are hazardrous. So its benefits outweigh the risks. Our bodies (because of genetic differences) respond in different ways to each and every substance we take from outside. Some of these reactions are harmful. But this is general to everything we take from outside; even bread and butter. But people never tend to  hoist up campaigns against bread and butter usage. (Sorry if I've been a bit rude here. But as an undergraduate doctor I've seen so many poor children who are blinded and crippled due to their parents' vaccination policies. It is a crime.)
