Hi All,
I'm new to HubPages and I've written my first article. I would greatly appreciate any advice to make it more attractive, a better read etc
Thank you:
https://hubpages.com/money/Bitcoin-in-Lay-Terms
Apart from the title, I think it’s a pretty good explanation of Bitcoin.
Isn’t it layman’s ?
Your article is well written, but your title could be improved. Your title is essential to getting search engine traffic and convincing people to click on a link. As was already mentioned by someone else, the correct term would be "Layman's'" not "lay" but even if you fix this grammatical error, you will not have addressed the problem. The fact is no one google's that search phrase. You should come up with a more search engine friendly, click baity title.
Hubpages does not allow you to change the url of your article so it would be strange if you changed the title but kept the url the same as your old title. If you decide to make a change, you will need to copy and paste your old article into a new one with a different title and url.
Best wishes on your writing.
Thanks for the advice. I’m just starting out and I’m not really sure about SEOs but I’ll learn quickly. It’s a pity I can’t change the url. Is it worth starting again with a new url or just leaving it as it is?
In this case, keep it at as is since the article has been accepted to a niche site. That's a nice achievement, especially on your first try.
Nevermind. I see you got accepted to the toughnickel niche site. That's a nice achievement and it tells you all is well with your article. Leave it as it is.
I think your comment about the title should not be ignored. We all can still improve, and just because the article was moved to a niche site does not mean it will get traffic. It still has to be the best, and come up on the first page.
Do you think it’s better to start again with a different url?
No. What is important to the search engines is your title. If your URL was really different (like, how to make money writing on the internet) it might affect your click rate, but just one word is not important enough to delete your article and have to start all over.
I was not suggesting changing the url just because of that word. What I meant was to come up with a better seo friendly title and redoing the title and the url.
However since it has been moved to a niche site this would be counterproductive because he would lose the placement.
Yes, I understood that. I think your suggestion on changing the title is still valid, even if it has already been moved.
(When I change a title or otherwise edit one of my articles HP reviews it and I am sent an email later about it. HP encourages writers to edit even if they are already on a niche site.)
If I changed the title to something different to ‘laymens’, would that be fine? Obviously it would still have Bitcoin in the title.
I would just leave it for now. While I agree with the other poster that google looks at the title more than the url, I think humans would find it discordant to see an url that says something completely different than the title. At this point since you have been accepted to a niche site, I would just leave things as they are.
Is ToughNickel the only niche site or are all the others niche sites?
Sorry for all the questions but I’m pretty new to HubPages.
All the other sites associated with hubpages are niche sites. They are each devoted to a particular topic.
